I am seriosly considering starting my own bike shop. I am starting to develop a buisness plan, and need some VERY basic info on how to get started with the main distributers of parts. Where does the average shop order their invetory from, and who should be contacted to get product pricing type info for my buisness plan?

Are there territory rules when selling name brand products? For instance, if a local shop sells giants and treks, who or what governs who else can sell these brands? Do these rules apply to sales done on internet?

However, if you want as much discouragement as possible, try rec.bicycles.tech, where many folks who actually run bicycle shops or work at them post regularly.
