Mountain Biking - Eggbeater vs. Candy

Anyone out there used both? Which do you prefer? Does the Candy platform actually help? With the eggbeater, do you need a substantially stiffer sole on your shoe?

I use Sidi Dominator shoes and Eggbeaters on my MTN bicycle and Candys on my CycloCross and road bicycles.

They quiet and reliable. I like the Candy pedals when there is a lot of stop and start in the city. The small platform helps.

I have used the regular egg beaters for about three years now. I started using the candy's about four months ago. To me they are worth it in the more technical sections when you dab more often. Once you come unclipped in a rough section you can't get back clipped in imediately, that is when the candy really pays off. It gives you a spot to temporarily put your foot.

As far as shoes that shouldn't make a whole lot of difference. Stiff shoes always help though.

I've never used the candys but I've been using the eggbeaters for a while now on my mtb and haven't been dissapointed at all. Especially when there is mud involved, they are the best mud shedders out there, I would think that the candys would have a little bit of trouble with that due to the platform. Sorry I can't give you a review of both but I'm really impressed with my eggbeaters. I got the SS version.

sarsparilla - you are right as far as the mud. I was in one race that was muddy as crap, that was the only time I have ever had problems clipping in since running egg beaters. Everyone was having problems though regardless of pedals. In the future I will be switching to my regular egg beaters during extremly muddy conditions.

Thanks folks. I've been waiting for the Yellow Candy's at Performance, and they were not supposed to be in until the 22nd, so I went and got the eggbeaters. Of course, after ordering Eggbeaters last night, the Candy's show up today, so now I have 4 sets of pedals, two of which will be returned. AWESOME prices.

I like my Candies very much. Even when it was in spring and the mud was 6 inches deep in a few sections, the platform never caused a problem so i would not concern.

i stay clipped about 95% of the time and try keep at least one foot clipped in on super technical sections. are eggbeaters the way to go for me?

I asked my LBS(good) about candy pedals and was told to stick with time atac because apparently candy bearings don't last as long.

double check with the mechanics at your lbs but personally I took the advice and stuck with time atacs

I doubt that is true about the Candy bearings. So far mine are fine, but if they ever do crap out, that is when the 2 year warranty comes in. And rebuild kits are 15 bucks
