Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Smoothie...
I'll be there too.....with camera in hand and will file a report here.
Raining this morning.
Because of that I am going to miss the Cat 5/4 race early.
Cat 3 at noon...I'll be there on the Klein.
I think I could hang with the '5's for a couple of laps, but I'll never know!

a.k.a.
Stupor week
Stupid week
Super work
Super weak
Downer Ave 1993 still plays in my mind. If I think real hard, I can smell the brats on the barby on the backstretch.
Great event.
How about the Bensenville, IL Crit (superweek too) on this Sunday 7/17?
I def. want to go watch.
If I read this right, they have a 30+ Masters, not specifically for beginners, but it's suggested to ride ther for first timers... because there is a separate Cat4/5 race so does that sound right? I know there would still be really fast people in that Masters race.
I don't know if I'm ready for crit racin', but it sounds like fun.

The 30+ cat had some smokin' fast guys!
....And did I mention I needed a drool bucket after looking at all those beautiful machines! Jesus, the money out there. One beautiful, fast bike after another. I felt under-dressed with my Campy Veloce Klein Reve'

Well ... I got crushed. I haven't raced since May 9th and everyone it seems is peaking for superweek. Now that the excuses are over ... I rolled up to the course early. It was wet but the rain was done for the day so nothing slick on the course just some debris from the trees that line the route - a 2.4-ish mile closed curcuit round a Botanical Garden which was really beautiful. Ours (4/5) was a short race at 30 miles (12 laps) and someone forgot to tell the guys up front that it wasn't a crit. The first 5 laps were nasty fast with a short hill right before the start/finish to complete each lap that began to hurt after a few trips round. I got shelled after 5 laps and gave up. I don't mind getting shelled - I kinda expected it with my lack of fitness and racing - but I'm mad as hell at myself for not continuing and finishing. I signed up to race next Tuesday just to teach myself a lesson ... and lose some weight :(
Had a great day though. Drove 120 miles to get my azz handed to me and watched a REALLY good Cat 3 race which a buddy was in. Some dude rode off the front with 2 laps to go and put 30 seconds on the bunch - great win.
When I got home I was out with my 5-year-old on his bike ... he told me he'd race me but I was too slow

30+ is an open category and is *****in' fast. Do the 4/5.

Mac...sorry I missed you...damn!
That dude that rode away in the Cat 3 race was a bartender nights in Chicago.
If you saw a dork in a bright yellow/orange jersey with "Tour de Phil" on it taking pictures....that was ME!
I rode down there and got there too late to see the 12-lap event you were in. Cat 3 did 18 laps. Now you know exactly my training ground...that's the course I did the 18 laps on a couple weeks ago.
I watched some of the juniors race too.
All in all, it seems to me there was blazing speed out there all day long....humbling.

HA, I saw you there. thats cool. I was in a bellin health jersey. I also raced the 4/5 and man was it fast. felt like a crit with the chicane and the sharp corner before the final climb. at least it was a nice course and no one crashed out. was very sketchy for a while. i agree with macman, fast. but i guess cant expect any less from a superweek race. I held on till the 9th lap before being dropped. dont feel bad about not finishing, they were pulling people from the course.

Ha! I saw you too. I was sitting down a few feet away watching the Cat3s at the time. If you're at the Tuesday 19th Lakefront race, I'll stop and say hello. My biggest fault was constantly being on the left side for the tight left-hand turn before the hill up to the start/finish - no momentum going into the hill. Well, that and the fact that I'm simply not race fit at all!

M-Man....
Double damn....I know that course like the back of my hand. Had I known you were coming up for that I could have gone over a few things for you. That corner is one of keys of the course. Lose MO and good night.
I think it is very cool that you drove all the way up in questionable weather in the morning to take a shot at it. My kudos to you. It's just too darned bad we couldn't hook up. Strange huh....we're only a little distance apart but we never knew it.
I thought about writing BIKE FORUMS.NET? on a piece of paper and holding it up....but then I just figured that would be too dorky of me!!!
