Advocacy & Safety - London Paramedics

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I heard on the radio that London (capital of our fair land, where chiminey sweeps speak loik Dick Van ****, and you are never far from a pearly King or Queen) have introduced Bike mouted paramedics.
they get to 88% of call outs faster than the ambulances, and in 33% of cases have the patient dealt with and can cancel the call.
Great eh!

Sounds awesome!
Wouldn't work around here though, too spread out, and most of the call are DRT (Dead Right There) old folks who've passed in their sleep and not hear from in a couple of days. Ah, the joys in living in a retirement area!

It seems like a good idea to me.
For the last couple of years we have had police on MTB, but I haven't seen any this year. I'll have to see if they are still around or wether the have abandoned the idea.
Now that I own a roadbike maybe I should rob a bank and let them try to catch me:D

Same can be said about bike messengers. They can often get through traffic congested areas faster than any other vehicle.
I suspect that even in those 55% of cases in which an ambulance is still needed, the first aid these bike-mounted paramedics administer is a life-saver.
