Howdy from East Texas
Call me Vlad
I am a career soldier (retired 1971), eight years as Corrections Officer, machinist, now retired. My interests are hunting, fishing, bike riding, mechanics, reading and in particular eagerly awaiting each new major novel of Tom Clancy.
I am 6-3 275 lbs and will be 70 in Sept. My sons are 40 and 43, my grandson is 10.
My favourite ride is a 1992 model Schwinn "Impact" 18 speed hardtail Teton AT HP 90 psi on front, Ocelot 26x1.9 160 psi on back. My second favourite is a Schwinn "World" 10 speed with Charleston Runabout 27x1-1/4 160- psi front and rear.
I ride to maintain health. I feel great. In hot weather I ride from 0600 to 0800 and that is usually 12 to 15 miles. 1000 to 1700 East Texas in summer aint fit for man nor beast.
A couple of times a week I stop at the auto parts store where the senior stoic philosohers gather for coffee and to give detailed descriptions of their agonies and surgeries. One of them is older than I. I have urged each of them to ride a bike. To a man they are able to give cogent reasons (not to be confused with excuses) that they are regrettably unable to ride a bicycle.
I learned about airfree tires and have come to prefer them. Perhaps you saw my post.
My primary interest in airless tires is that I do not wish to have flats. I may dodder along the shoulder of the highway for years in a wonderful time of safety, peace and plenty. It may happen that one day I may wish to escape/evade/survive on my Schwinn 18 speed with my Garand 30-06 and 50 lbs of things without which life might be short but grim. In any event, I do not wish to have a flat tire.
I promise that I will do my best to avoid racing downhill on unpaved trails at heady speeds whether or not I impact on a large rock. They tell me that elderly bones do not mend well.
Nice to meet you-all. (You-all is second person plural.)
