General Cycling Discussion - Saddle search

Returned from a Maine kayaking vacation. Lovely!
While there I saw a racked bike on a SUV that had a two part saddle. A seperate 'seat' for each buttock cheek.
I've been trying to get my expanding wife into cycling but she complains of saddle soreness.
Searching the web didn't help. Does anyone know where I can find this saddle?

I have seen those two part saddles before but I can't remember where. I think they look good, but I also think that comfort can be found in a saddle that fits you properly. I know that Terry makes some leisure/comfort saddles that are women specific. You could probably find a very comfortable one. I know that I bought my wife a Selle Royal comfort saddle for the same reason and it seems to help her as well. Of course, nothing helps in my opinion like bike shorts stretched tight over an otherwise bare butt, separated only by a slight bit of Boudreaux's Butt Paste or A-D Ointment.

Saddle soreness from what? chafe or pressure? the solution is different.

If she rides 'comfort' with handlebars higher than the seat, she might at least look into a sprung saddle, or so says sheldon brown somewhere.

Any Bike shop that does business with J&B distribution should be able to order you one. If memory serves, they are @ $40.

Ditto that. But I still order them up for folks who need the lesson that buying a saddle with their eyes is usually a big let down.

I think that anatomical seats are the best seats available. I've had gel seats that "look" like they ought to be comfortable, but it caused major problems. I've done a 250 mile bike ride with both, and was very satisfied with the anatomical seat. Serfas makes one that's around $40.

You obviously need to get her a womans saddle, then this part could be fun for you...but you (ok, probably her) needs to measure the distance of sit bones and try to find a seat where those sit bones will be right on the center of the pads. Unfortunately seats are a pain in the butt to get right the first time; since my racing days I use to use Advocet seats but they changed the design and were no longer comfortable for me, so that started a 15 year and 11 or 12 saddle search that only Brooks was able to answer. The amount of money I spent on saddles I could have bought another bike!!

Split seats are an old idea and originated in the early 1900's. The fact that idea didn't take should tell you something. Find a Brooks lady's B17 and your problems should be over.

I finally found a Hobson EasySeat via the web. She says she likes it! I think its a poorly engineered thing, but its her butt that must be satisfied.
I've bought her gender specific seats in the past, gelled, sprung, everything I could afford.
I hate adjusting a bike for someone else, because I simply cannot feel what they feel.

some cyclists cannot use normal saddles because of injury. i've used the hobson seat and now the spider flex. these saddles are made for cyclists that are willing to try anything to keep on riding and actually have worked for me.

hey, Biopace is an old idea that didn't take, too, but I like my biopace chainrings!

I seem to remember some crank was spamming those lawn chair seats a while back. If you NEED something like that, then maybe it's time for a recumbent or such.
