Bicycle Mechanics - Trek 830 Repair

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have a Trek Antelope 830, which is doing alright except for the gears. The assembly has worn out completely; I cant shift properly. I was hoping for a bit of advice on which parts to change - chain, derailers, sprockets? Right now its a Shimano Exage 300LX. Can I just buy another set or should I get parts separately?

If everything is totally shot, you may be better off with another bike.

One of the advantages of owning a Trek is support from your neighborhood Trek dealer. Many folks think they have a "big" problem, when all they need is a tune-up from a skilled and experienced tech.
Have your Trek dealer look over your bike. Odds are, with a tune-up, and perhaps a new chain, your Trek will be running as good as new. Many shifting problems related to cable tension, which can be adjusted in one minute.
One of the advantages of owning a Trek is support from your neighborhood Trek dealer. Well, the only thing on it unique to Trek is most likely the frame/fork.Any non nose picker should be able to do whatever is needed.
That's funny, I picked up an incomplete Antelope 820 last weekend, and the Sugino crank is worn to junk - worse than ANYTHING I've ever seen before. All three chain rings look like circular saw teeth, and the whole assembly wobbles loosely behind the crank arm.
If it's as bad, the crank is completely shot.
Not TREK's finest hour?I'v seen much better worn to cr@p from neglict and abuse. But don't expect alot from any makers bottom end stuff.
