I've been doing a time trial up Mount Pleasant, a brutal 1,800 m climb in Montreal for some time now. Until today, my best time had been 6:51, set fairly early in the season. Today, I did it in 6:41. I felt like Richard Virenque looked on Mont Ventoux. Next goal: under six minutes.

LOL, for a moment I thought you meant 1800m vertical gain  Congratulations on your new best, good luck on the goal :)

Congrats on your accomplishment Velocipedio! Always a good feeling to know you're improving.
P.S. Do you give lessons?

Velocipedio, what's the gain in elevation for those 1800m?

I gain in elevation is on the order of 100m give or take a few.

I set a best time on the same hill yesterday of 7:48 over the previous 8:02. My goal is to beat Velocipedio :p

According to my topo map of Montreal [one of the only nice things in my office at school], the gain is between 120m and 125m. Using string, I find that the distance covered is aboout 1790 m. That's just short of a 7% average grade. The first two switchbacks are closer to 4%, I should think, but there is at least on kickup [about halfway up the first leg above the Boulevard] that goes up above 15% in some places. According to the map -- and my accuracy should be questioned, if only because I'm doing the string-route thing -- there's a gain of 18m in 150m there... gets nasty.

Nice job fellas!

The local standard in my area is Old La Honda Rd. It's 5310M with a elevation gain of 385M. I guess that's 7.2%. My best time so far is 27-28 minutes (I didn't have my watch on, the bike computer clock only gives minutes, and I didn't want to reset the trip timer). My goal is to reach 25 min. The semi-official record is about 15 min. supposedly set by Eric Heiden.

there's an overpass next to my apt that has something like 35 feet of climbing on it! :(

This is a fluke or something but I was able to reach and sustain 20mph on my stock comfort mountain bike on a flat in the saddle for 3 minutes. I thought that was a big accomplishment:D
