General Cycling Discussion - my toes hurt

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've been riding for about 3 years now and my big toes have just started hurting me the last few weeks. I have the same shoes I started with. They still look brand new and nothing is wore out. I've tried different socks, wearing my shoes tighter and looser and nothing seems to help.
You can't tell by looking at my toes that anything is wrong. The pain is from the tip of the toe and underneath the toe. It almost feels like there is a blister or something. It's a stinging pain or like if there was a sliver in there. When I'm riding sometimes the pain goes away for a little while but then comes back. It makes riding miserable. Anyone else every experience this?

Hmmm, I have foot problems which relate to walking more than cycling. I think you should try some toe cushions or pads that cover over the whole toe. Then try clean different socks from another manufactorer. If this does not work, change to another shoe or see a physician.

Well you could just cut them off.

I've had Big toe problems, too. It started some time back while I was in the "Runnning" mode. Cycling only made it hurt worse. To make a long story short, the doc. said I had a bone spur just beneath the nail. Each time the foot struck the ground or pedals, the pain was there. As time went, on the pain was there all the time. He removed the toe nail, and things are much better. Talk to your doctor, you may have less of a problem.

Big toe hurting is a classic sign of gout. It HURTS to where you can't hardly walk.
Toes tingling, like when you get the "gone to sleep" feeling is a sign of diabetes. Pains like like being stuck with a needle are also signs of diabetes.
Get yourself to a doctor ASAP and get checked out. Both are real bad.
I got both of the above.
