Because I have my monster early morning ride, then I have to sit at the window and watch for the mailman so she doesn't leave a message saying I have to come to the post office to get the book. Then I'll be reading the latest book, which I hear is even longer than the last book... and once I get started on a Potter book, I don't stop until it's fully read, not even for sleep.

I got my comfort food, my gatorade, and my confirmation that it was shipped... now I'm just waiting on the book! Goooooooooooooo Potter! :)

Priorities koffee, priorities. :D

You could always record the tour and take a 2 hour break from the book.

I of course wait til' they turn it into a movie. LOL

I don't know about break... like I said, once I get started, I can't put the book down. And I hate peeking to the end to see what happens, because it makes me want to go back and read the whole thing anyway! I will tape it, but I probably will not get to it until Sunday night. Oh well. Like you said... priorities... :D ;)

Not me! Dang it, they lost my book... between UPS and USPS and Barnes and Noble, they just threw that book around like it was nothing. I finally got a sympathetic ear, and after 2 hours of searching, they've got my book. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Well, I'm on my way to the post office now to pick it up. At least the lady was kind enough to keep her eye open and find it for me. :)

Is there such a thing?

My daughter was in line at midnight for the new book. They sold over 700 books in 45 minutes! I can't imagine what the overnight sales were worldwide.

After enjoying an exciting stage of the Tour today, I went down to my local outpost of the Evil Empire (Walmart) to buy a few things.

They had stacks of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince as high as my ass.

After they lost my book, I found out from Borders that Best Buy had a shipment of books, so I called over to the Best Buy where my sister-in-law was a manager. She had no idea they had the Potter books- rushed to the warehouse to find boxes and boxes of Potter books that no one knew anything about, so she "code-9'ed" the staff and they got the books out there on display and sold out their books. I was going to get one of those books when the lady at the post office found my book. So far, a good read. I'm not rushing it at all- just savoring it as I read it.

Second to last book, then no more Potter books. :( It's like the Chronicles of Narnia. By the time you got to book 7, you were sad it was over, but at least it felt good.

52.00 for the cd version. man that is too much. well teh cassestes were about 35.00 that was the same as the last book. but cd's cost elss to make anymore.
I usualy prefeer to read my books usualy on my PDA but the harry potter books are better in audio format. the reader is so good at bringing out the personalities of everyone.
plus with the cd's I can rip them into mp3 and I hope ge them all on one cd. it has been a hassle to get the tracks named right to keep them in order though. but now all three of us can listen at teh same time. though I will wait till monday when I go to work. I don't ahve antyhing ot keep me occupied while listening at home.

Two things:

1)Now that this thread has come up in Bike Forums and I will never get another chance.

2)In support of Koffee for reading so-called "children's books."

I now have to admit I love readiing:

I know people of all ages LIKE the Potter books, but they are aimed at an adolescent audience. Most of the people I see being interviewed about how they like the books are between 8-14. In that sense it is a 'young person's' book.

I love reading too, but the tour is on now- my books will be there when it's over and I can read them then! the tour comes once a year!

I started it yesterday and just finished it today. his one had a much more adult tone to it than the previous five.

Yes, it did. But then again, the kids are growing up, and the subject matter is getting a bit more serious. So we'll see what happens for that final book!

I prefer to describe myself as 'childlike' rather than 'childish', but there is some discussion on the topic around our house from time to time.... :)

Oh, right. I'm about halfway through, and will re-read (5) when I'm done.

Books are great....I thought they were kids books too until I a co-worker talked me into checking them out. He has all the books and cd audio versions both for reading with he and the kids.

Back last year when I had the long drive to work, I borrowed the books (CD audio version) one by one to listen to them. It is a great story for people of all ages.....it definitely has a complex enough story to be great for an adult too.

I'll wait until he's done with it and borrow it from him....either book or cd version...not sure which.

I am in the middle of reading the new one, so no one give out any details please. My nieces and nephews(ages 7-21) all went and hung out in line at midnight Saturday to wait for the book. Had my niece buy me an extra copy. They loved everything surrounding the book.

I think it is cool to see the kids actually interested in something besides video games and TV.. It was fun for me just watching how excited they were..

man, last night my gf and i were sitting outside our apt. She was reading hte new harry potter, I was drinking a 24 of Hamms. "I read a crappy spoiler on CL today", I said. "Oh? Interesting", she says. "****-" I cut myself off, and she gives me the stare of death. Then I was like "*****-". She was kind of mad at me for a good portion of the evening *snicker*.

Oh does this mean im not the only person in the whole world that dose not like Harry Potter. When I was in year 8 (I was 12) my school went through a BIG Harry Potter thing. Every one was reading it... but me of corse. I sat there reading almost any other book from The wind singer to Tomorrow when the war began. I did the same thing with the Lord of the rings. I find the more popular(sp?) books every boring.

those kids get more lovin' than many adults I know.
This book made me sad for days.
I couldn't beleive Harry took so much great advise from Snape without even knowing it.
Lot's of fun surprises, but who the !@#$ is R.A.B.?

wabbit
07-23-05, 11:16 AM
Zub, just because something is 'popular' doesn't mean everyone has to like it- it doesn't even mean it's good! Look at the movies that make the biggest box office sales- a lot of times they're worthless crap! One of the biggest selling books for adults now is some evangelist book about 'being positive' or something- it's probably drivel that you can read in an hour.

CdCf

Funny how people refer to them as children's books, while adults all over the world happily watch Star Wars movies, which are clearly aimed at the 7-12 yo segment.

who cares whether the books were originally written to an
adolescent audience. I read em all.
What about Lord of the Rings? kiddie literature? the Hobbit surely is.
and Narnia and once an future king by EB White are clearly childrens
lit.
Read every one of those.

SO did I, when I was a kid! Except LOTR, those books never interested me. However, I once read a book called "Farmer Giles of Ham", a lesser known book by Tolkien, and I remember I kind of liked it.

The movies you mentioned are written for a general audience- so they say, but that in movie parlance means average age about 21 or something.
