Commuting - What to wear?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My husband (okay, *I*) could use a little advice here. He commutes 9 miles to work, usually in the clothes he will wear for the rest of the day. He swears the air conditioning in his office building is so cold that he's "freeze dried" by the time he gets upstairs. Be that as it may, it's getting pretty darn hot here....
I got him a bike shirt, and he will (sometimes) wear it when it's really hot. I have no idea what to get him for pants, though. He doesn't want leggings and doesn't wear shorts of any type. Are there any kind of "real guy" pants that are lighter than sweats, go down to one's ankles, and are easy to bike in? Thanks for any help!

Perhaps a light weight jogging pants?..... But still, I can't imagine commuting in long pants in the heat and humidity.

There are a lot of stylish "microfiber" etc khakis out there, made by land's end, columbia, etc., they tend to be hiker-oriented but some could pass for normal "casual" office wear. Of course if your hubby works where cargos are ok then you're really in luck. Places to look may be sportmart, land's end, REI, etc., just remember to look for the synthetic stuff called "microfiber" and names like that, cotton will be heavier, hotter, and hang onto sweat more (yuk)

I wear polycotton hiking pants most of the time. Modern versions are made from synthetic fabrics. Both are light, windproof and quick drying but the pure synthetic ones perform a bit better. Microfibre fabrics (threads < 1 dernier) are very thin and lightweight and usually used in windproof tops.
Mine are made by UK company Rohan, but there are plenty of US versions in the same theme.
