Professional Cycling - most brilliant tdf photo or artwork

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
would like to fill some bare wall with a large, framed photo or artwork of the tdf. could take a jpeg to kinkos and have them print a poster from it. anyone know of a classic photo i could poach off the web? have been googling around but have not yet found just the right thing. am thinking of a coloroful peleton streaking through a field of sunflowers, etc... cheers

got some great results with digital photos taken in italy. fine quality, large images, sharpened up in fireworks, then printed poster size at kinkos come out great. at least good enough for my taste...

why not indeed? the sunflower poster is perfect. i have a large (and expensive) custome frame/matte in the attic that i need to pull out and measure, and if i can use with that poster you'll be hearing from my paypal account soon! nice stuff, and thanks!

Glad I could help.
Now if only I could find a nice resource for old TdF B/W photos (beside for the handful that you see in various bike catalogs)
I know there are photo archiving projects afoot in this country and abroad that propose to make huge collections of photos available for public consumption. I have to find one that contains sports photos.
Mark.
Slightly OT for not talking about how to get them, but rather my favorites - everyone has seen them - the guys riding and holding each other up at the end of a stage to light each other's cigarettes, and the two Swiss riders drinking beer on a stoop with tubes wrapped around them as the local kids look on. Reminiscent of a time when the riders were just tough men, not guys on training regimens.

hilarious. this morning on oln heard a reference to the not-so-old days before they had team buses and trailers, etc.: the riders would knock on the doors of homes near the start and finish lines and ask to change, use facilities, etc...
Thanks, bunabayashi, I couldn't find that one - awesome!
Not sure how to insert a pic (?) but here is the other:

she updates after every stage
I have done a number of cycling paintings. Here's one of Kloden.

Today was a sweet finish....though I wish Horner could've held it...

HHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! LOL!
Also, notice the new spelling of the word Intinmate. They can't even get the series spelled right!
Now I have to get THAT one!
I love the painting and the Caroline Yang. Good stuff.
Can anyone link to the snot shot?
(Hey bunabayashi - more cowbell.)

Were they dawdling while jockeying for position? It seemed like they could have done it if they had just kept on it.
not a tdf photo i think, but cool:

one of my most favorite pictures from the TDF is one taken by Graham Watson, Stage 15, 2003
for some reason i just love that picture.
Sweet, thanks for sharing. I can just imagine the conversation:
Daddy: Honey, stay there while Daddy gets the camera
Mommy: bunabayashi, you are sick and you will sleep on the couch tonight if you take that picture.
I guess I was expecting a current TdF rider, not a future rider. Good stuff though.
Here's one of "Der Kaiser" Jan Ullrich.

I want this as a poster in my room...
Love it... my two fav riders busting their @$$ to the finish...
If you look closely at Lance's Oakley [hahah product placement] you can see the road beckon towards the finish...
I love the one with the beer drinkers...

Is this the same kid yelling at Lance in the previous Yang photo? the ear may be blurred, but the rest of the features look very similair... and does anyone have a photo of the kid who snagged LA's bars with the Musette bag? haha!!

WOW!
That shot of Tyler and the kid from last year was one of my favorites and it sure does look like the same kid...
WHO IS HE??!?
While Watson is certainly the Master, Yang's beautiful shots offer a unique perspective. We're lucky to have them both :)

Here's my favorite -- by far -- from the 2005 TdF:

I don't know about blowing this jpeg up to poster size, but maybe you could contact the owner (velonews, I guess) and buy a copy with much higher resolution... if you're interested.
edit: The photo, from stage 3, is of the famous head-butting incident (Robbie McK.)

That's great! I've been looking for decent copy of this for my wife - it was her favorite moment of the TdF 2005. Thanks!

Seeing this photo I have more sympathy for Robbie. Everyone focuses on the head, but not that he is trying to unhook the elbow of his countryman.

that was one exciting moment, wasn't it? i was watching the month old DVD at the time and still jumped out of my chair when it happened. very cool indeed.
ended up getting the 'smokers' poster - hilarious, a good conversation piece, and full of historical detail. plus, the poster size perfectly matched the matte and frame i had...
