Ok. So I was looking at http://www.letour.fr/2005/TDF/LIVE/us/1200/classement/IPG.html which contains the points classification standings through stage 12. The bottom half-dozen or so riders actually have negative points! How did they manage that?
I looked through all the daily points-related results, and I didn't see any reference on there to people losing points.

fines/ docking points for illegal team car pulls or somethin??... I sure know some people got docked recently..

That's what I thought -- i.e., losing green jersey points must be some sort of fine or penalty but it doesn't seem very severe. If you're at zero points, what difference does it make to be at -5?

I was completely wondering this exact same thing. Wouldn't they just fine someone for rule violations and such?
