Speed of this year's tour

I'm gonna throw this out there..... Anyone have any ideas why this tour is so damn fast?

I'm trying to think of a reason but I can't.

There was a tail wind for the first bunch of stages, which accounts for some of it, no?

Also hearing about sprinters' teams doing lots of chase work.

As the years progress, so does the technology, physical conditoning and sports science. Maybe all these factors add up?

That and a tail wind or flatter stages..
