I think Darwin might have smth. to say about this:

Imminent culling (http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2005/tour05/?id=tour0515/cycling-tdf2005-accident-54)

Worldwide IQ level rises imperceptibly (http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2005/tour05/?id=tour0515/cycling-tdf2005-accident-44)

Just hope the moto guys are ok...

If the only guy hurt was under the moto's wheels, it was worth it.

Being an ex-motorcycle rider, my first thought was I hope the jerk got a good burn from the bikes pipes! :D

If only the motorcycles and teams cars could have old fashioned cow catchers attached...

i would recommend modifying the cowcatchers to have razor sharp blades sticking out....

from what i saw on tv they driver recovered nicely and continued on almost without skipping a beat.... i would have been tempted to burn some rubber onthe idiot's head....

But the camera man did give him a nice smack on the head as they took off. More than just the usual French finger wag.

The guy deserved 100% of it. He knows that your not supposed to run next to the riders or even go in front of the riders. But he went ahead and did it and paid for it. It seemed like the moto guys ran right over him.

If that happened over here, can you imagine the lawsuits?

Smoothie104

The guy who got run over would sue, the the Tour Organizers would say "he shouldn't have been in the road, he knows better" to which the guy's attny would say "he didn't see any signs, or fences and its the TdF's fault for allowing him to run out in the road"

The judge would rule for the plantif, and require the entire route to be fenced, which is impossible, so the Event would never be held again.

A few years ago, tragdey struck when a small boy was killed by a vehicle after running out into the road to grab some candy or freebies that the publicity caravan throws to the spectators... Very sad, as it was a child. But the guy today, hahahahah, man he knew the risks.

But to be honest, the moto could have backed off too, but didn't so I think they were trying to send a message of thier own..

Morons. Look at Armstrong and Pereiro in that second picture ... they're both looking round and not in front because of the dickwads behind. They both could have crashed at that point too.

Anyone tape the stage? Watch it, I reckon Pereiro brushes at least half a dozen fans, especially near the top where all the Basques were standing in the road

Haha, I just love how Hincapie and Pereiro are looking at him get run over. I'd like to know what was going through their heads at that point...

Great pictures. Thanks for the post.

Did you see the guy a few stages ago with the Columbian flag who was running right in the way? Phil was getting upset and the guy needed to be basically tackled to get out of the course.

And they would have to have signs in every language spoken in the entire universe.

I know. I think it's funny that people think that Baseball fans are crazy. I sure wouldn't want to be hit by a guy who's body is full of adrenalin and is pipin' mad that you just got him out of his rythm. The TdF or any other race for that matter, is the most intense fan/athlete interaction of any sport, in my opinion. Well, not counting a Detroit basketball game. ;)

Those motorcycles should have a pitchfork sticking out the front for people like that.

Either that or they should use quads and just drive over them.

This guy is going to be out of the gene pool soon. Did you like all the pushes that people gave Jan up the hill? The crouds are becoming too weird I mean didn't the race officals get a hint with Eddie Merx?

It does look exactly like a picture that has been posted in several other threads. Surely there's not multiple idiots getting run over by the Motos.

It was caused by one of Discos hit men. He punched him in the back of head. Look at the fan to the right.

Or the Spanish Basques supporter in an orange shirt that emptied the entire contents of a slightly yellowish liquid on Hincapie on the last climb. Ran alongside him pouring the whole thing. Anyone else catch that? I can hope that it was water, but I don't know.

I noticed that -- I was wondering how much it must have pissed him off (since he can be penalized for it). Then there was the guy with the American flag running right in from of him (Jan) -- that could only have sped him up. I thought the crowd on the final two climbs was the craziest I've seen yet.

I believe it was Saturday when Vinokourov swung his arm backwards hostily on a T-Mobile fan who was pushing him from behind. Getting a penalty for doing nothing wrong really would suck.

Or what I didn't see on TV, but which happened. Basque supporters stoning some of the press cars and others at the summit of one of the climbs. Possibly as a separatist protest. In any case, TVE is trying to bring charges because one of their cars was damaged.

I taped and watched it over again. That guy curls up like a baby when he gets run over. Man, you know those pipes were blazing hot climbing those mountains with two fellows on it.

What they need is an ole time bulldozer to open a path before the leaders. Some of these fans are maniacal.

“Look at me! I’m a superhero donned with my national flag and 12 Abbaye de Vaucelles’ sloshing around in my gut!” “Whoops!” Smack. Crunch. Burn. Scrape.

Hmmm... Who was it a few years back that was penalized for smacking one of Pantani's relatives who was giving him grief while he was on the bike during a race?

OLN reported prior to their Sunday stage coverage that the "bus-city" was attacked Saturday night.
