No, not for my addiction, thats hopelessly incurable.

I received my copy of Bicycling yesterday
(hey it was a gift, ok?). and opened it up and
expected the usual drivel.
No 7 best things about this bike, looks like an
honest review, better than a 1/4 page synopsis.
An Article about SHELDON BROWN, with real verbage!
No Rider of the month crap
Articles that are for the most part, informative.

Unfortunately they still have Style-man, who if
you read as humor is at least tolerable.

we shall see. . .

My mother-in-law gave me a subscription to Bicycling for Christmas. Her heart was in the right place, but until the new issue, I had not been very impressed. It appears that they (the publishers) are trying hard to make the magazine an interesting concern.
I guess the only past constant that I really cared for was Style Man. Now, there may be a few more reasons to read the magazine.
It appears that Bill Strickland is still the publisher (or is he the editor?), so I wonder if there has been an internal struggle to move into modern day cycling info delivery. The proof will be in the next several issues. I'll watch to see if improvements continue, or will they try a lot of hit-and-miss tricks to get more circulation. The magazine would do itself a favor by logging on and reading several of the forums like this one. That way they could at least see what everyone is writing about and what interests the modern cyclist.

In all honesty, I don't think there's a cycling magazine out there worth reading. I used to read these things, but I stopped when I got sick of reading the same 'training article' (one I can find in 30 seconds on the internet) over and over again, exactly the same sort of 'maintenance tip', or seeing some poser 'testing' (re: rehashing a press release) a $5,000 bike that nobody in the real world can afford anyway.

I left myself wondering why they don't just put all this stuff on a website somewhere and save the trees and the time. The only reason for this I can think of is that the advertisers (and boy do they ever have advertising) seem to think they are getting a better deal from a magazine that can put $7.50 as the cover price and sell for $3.50 (or whatever the subscription price is this week).

To be honest, I think forums like this are far more worth a read.

My complaint about Bicycling Magazine is that it turned into a Jumping-Off-Cliffs mountain bike rag + a zillion ads.

If you aren't into jumping off cliffs or buying ultra expensive pro stuff, there isn't much to read.

MountainBike Action is by far the best cycling mag out there, I suggest you mtbers give it a try.

I knew something had changed as soon as I saw the cover, which is also better.

My dear parents got a free subscription to a magazine of their choice. For my birthday, Dad subcribed to "Bicycling," and sends them to me.

I love Dad (and Mom, too,) but "Bicycling" is too much like...well, like a magazine.

"How to pedal like Lance." (A few sentences about "spinning," "scraping the bottom of your foot" on the bottom of your stroke and "rolling a barrel" on the top of your stroke.

"Best Legs." (With pics.)

Oh, 'scuse me, I just noticed a half-dozen piggies sucking momma pig's teets on PBS. Gotta go for now...

shortly after bill strickland got involved, i e-mailed him and told him how i was a subscriber for 11 years and can not take the MTV blurbs for people with short attention spans.... and he wrote back that that was exactly who he was going for.... and loved that his magazine is an easy read that can be read in 15 minutes!!!

that was the last i ever saw of that mag. now i pick up the good european ones at the book stores every now and again. but i know what i need to do to get better at my biking.....and it isn't in one of those mag;s....

I normally try to read as much as I can about anything new in my life. Consequently, when starting up riding again after 30 years out of the saddle, I subscribed to Bicycle. It is not likely that I will renew.

I agree with those who say there is much more to be gotten out of this fourm.
