Introductions - Hello from Chicago - Oak Park area/My near western suburbs

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My name is Bill and I'm a roadie from the Oak Park area in Chicago. I do road rides with a local group, I commute to work in downtown Chicago 11 miles each way, and try to bike whenever possible (errands, etc) as an alternative form of transportion.

Hi Bill. It's always good to welcome another Illinoisan to Bikeforums. Which club do you ride with?
If you aren't doing anything else on August 25, come ride the Old Mill Century. Click here for details. (http://www.oldmillcentury.com) Bring all your friends. I'm annoying the heck out of everyone promoting this thing, but it really is a great ride.

I ride with Lake & Harlem Cycling Group. One of our sayings is "were a group, not a club". The thinking is that a club implies rules, meetings, etc. All we want to do is ride, none of that stuff.

The ride you are promoting might be a good warm-up for the Wright Stuff Century that a number of us are doing Labor Day Weekend.
Ride on!

I've never had a chance to do the Wright Stuff Century, though I've always been intrigued by it. I've done some riding in that area. Looks like a great ride.
I like your "groups" philosophy. Our club is a club. We get together to ride weekly, but we have just enough organization and rules to put on the annual invitational ride.
I just got notification of a Major Taylor Memorial Ride being sponsored by the Folks on Spokes (http://www.folksonspokes.com/). Being intrigued by Major Taylor (Can one be a fan of a celebrity who died long before one was born?) I'd love to do the ride, but doubt I will get the chance.
