Foo - The Dating Game 'UnThread'

So, KirkeIsWaiting's thread about 'The Dating Game' must have gotten a little too steamy for the moderators; as the entire thread now seems to be gone.

I believe an explanation is in order. If a post or two goes too far and deserves to be deleted, I can see that. Happens on a lot of threads on a lot of forums.

Kirke's was a very long thread that obviously piqued members' interest. Why delete the entire thing?

Because we had regular complaints about the thread. Lately, reports seemed to escalate, and that's when it is time to close it all down.

If we have to spend quite a bit of time editing out inappropriate comments (which is what I was doing), then my thought is that no matter how many times we go in and delete out the inapprorpriate stuff, some members will just not get it.

I don't think people realize it, but we do act quickly, so members don't see the amount of work we may have to put into a thread. If you multiply the amount of work we do times the 25- 30 pages of posts created per day that we try dilligently to read through, that is a whole lot of work. My opinion is that if I have to spend quite a bit of time babysitting a thread no matter how many times we seem to delete out the same stuff, then it's time to end that thread.

Sorry... from what I understand, it seemed amusing at some point. I wasn't even aware that folks were trying to hook me up (nice try, D_C, but no cigar!).

It might make your load easier if you guys posted 'warnings' of some kind. I saw one that I recall on this thread, only saw a post or two that looked 'objectionable' to me. Clearly there was much material being killed that many of us didn't see.

I'm not carping, and I don't envy an internet 'babysitters' job. Perhaps you're working harder than you have to, and a 'clean it up or this thread goes; you know who you are' here or there might help.

We don't normally post warnings against people in public. We send PMs. It's a bit more private and doesn't single people out or anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. Perhaps we can think of a better way to let folks know to tone things down without alienating other forum members.

See, when you go into the thread and start deleting stuff all stealth-like and don't leave any trace, how are others that post on the thread suposed to know that it is 'getting out of hand' unless you post something publicly? I didn't know anything worth acknowledging was going on in this particular thread and then poof, it's gone.

Kirke, I'm certain some of the stuff I posted contributed to your thread being deleted and I apologize for ruining your thread.

However, in my defense, I waited until there had been like 300 posts made before I said anything potentially offensive and I figured that anyone still reading that thread would have a sense of humor and thick enough skin to laugh or ignore.

I guess some people like watching car accidents and go looking for things to upset themselves over.

Still, I'm sorry your thread got toasted since it was a lot of fun and you put some good work into it.

nothing against the people that post in them, but a person can always skim through those type threads and figure out who is loose and who gets around. Other times interesting to read.
