Home: Boulder, Colorado USA

Age: 34

I ride primarily for utility purposes these days including a hilly 26 mile RT commute for work. Love touring, but still do some trail riding on occasion.

Bikes: I'm down to one for the first time in years. I use it for everything (obviously). 1999 Trek 930 rigged for commuting and general utility.

Previous bike tours:

Fall 1993 - Central Maine to Albany, NY area, 1 week self-supported solo on a 1982 Panasonic DX3000

Summer 1997 - Oregon coast, 1 week self-supported solo on a 1990 Trek 930

Fall/Winter 1999/2000 - China/Pakistan/India/Nepal/Thailand/Laos/Vietnam/Cambodia, 6 month self-supported solo on a 1999 Trek 930

I'm moving to Kathmandu, Nepal this September. Who knows where that will take me.

Good to be here.

Welcome. Hey, I also have a 930 that I've converted to a commuter/utility machine! :D

Hi Scott. Glad you found the Introductions forum. :)

I'm moving to Kathmandu, Nepal this September. Who knows where that will take me.

Good to be here.
Will you be moving temporarily or permanently?
Do they have bike shops there?
How many weeks will it take shipments from Nashbar or Performance to get to you? :D

It's an extended temporary move, I'd say. I got a job there in my field of interest. Best to bring whatever parts you might need with you. I don't recall seeing any "western" bike shops anywhere near Kathmandu. I also wouldn't risk doing any catalog ordering from there (assuming they'd even be willing to ship to Nepal). There's a lot of risk when using the Nepali postal system. Better to have friends/others courier parts over if you want to be sure to get them.
