so that I can stop hearing it? Every damn media outlet from velonews to oln uses this word in the most absurd ways. the "penultimate" mountain stage, the "penultimate" climb, the "penultimate" day, the "penultimate" frickin' time trial.

when will phil ligget tell us he's about to take a break to eat his penultimate meal of the day? how about just lunch?

"Penultimate" seems to have strong ties to cycling. I first ran across the word 20+ years ago in Winning magazine. It seems to be a popular word with bike racing reporters and announcers for some reason. Maybe it's a European thing.
