What kind of "Mickey Mouse" (I hate to use a famous celebrity to put down something) workmanship makes those "plops" of asphalt or cement on the side of the road? You know, right in your line of travel, as if some road worker is out to knock off a cyclist (me.) I mean, can't they scrape it back up or something, before it hardens into this lump that threatens to throw me and my butt off the bike?
I'm not going fast enough to need a speed bump...
I've noticed that when doing road work, they use a steel plate until the roadwork hardens. This makes a nice, smooth edge in the road for cars to pass over. I guess I'm not in their plans.

A lot of those concrete blobs come from contrete trucks spilling little bits of their loads.
They obvioulsy couldn't care less that once hardened these blobs turn into hazzards.

I always thought those were meant to patch holes in the pavement...

Actually, if one of those dang things landed in the actual lane, you know some motorist would complain and they would come fix it...
...maybe...

I just wish that every so often there actually would be a joining of the asphalt road and the concrete curb/drain system ... instead of the 2 inch crack there usually is. Those nasty little cracks are the most dangerous things I contend with daily.
Sounds like it could be a chuck hump :p

Ever notice that when using a contractor, the government comes out and marks every little thing and makes them make it perfect before they accept it?
In-house repairs made by the government itself don't seem to be given the same type of scrutiny.

Hey Webist, don't get me started.
I'm a Certified General Contractor and the rules and regulations WE have to follow are outrageous.
BUT, a project that the county performs with "Staff" doesn't even need an inspection.
IT'S a CRAAAAAZZZZZZYYYYYY world!!!

Ever notice that when using a contractor, the government comes out and marks every little thing and makes them make it perfect before they accept it? Not here in Sacramento. It is my pet peeve that they do not make consruction do decent patches and we have to live with it. Especially trenching down the middle of the bike lanes to install fiber optic. ETC. Karl
that is one of the reasons i like to ride a bike w/ larger(wider) tires.
i seem to run into curbs alot......;)
