Mountain Biking - Disc brakes - which is better?

One last quick question before leaving on holiday:
Which disc brake is better for freeride? Shimano Deore hydros or Avid Juicy 5s? I can get the Deore hydros for 113 euros each here in Spain and I can get the Avids at 120 euros in Hungary. I have a feeling the Avids cost a lot more here in Spain than in Hungary so I'd prefer to buy the Avids in Hungary.

You have been on here a while DC. You already know the answer. Which ever you prefer ;)

Both are good brakes, both will stop you. Freeride is not dh so you are not moving at max speed so both are fine to use.

Which one feels the best to you? If you have not been able to compare them riding then I would suggest the Avids. They seem to have a better feel out of those two. I would recomend a different set but since those are the two you have narrowed it down to then Avid is the winner. Not by much though.

:beer: Cheers. :) I was already leaning towards the Avids, only that many of my friends have Shimano Deores and say them love them.

I own Juicy 5s on my bike and I love the feeling very much. I didn't tried the Shimano ones though.

I'm quite sure that with Avid you won't be disappointed.

Good to hear! :) One thing I'm concerned about is the "shuddering" that many reviews in www.mtbr.com describe. They say the brake works perfectly and awesomely but some of the reviews state that whenever they brake they experience a big shuddering.

I would want to know who set the brakes up and what type of rider/expieriance is involved. If they are set up properly there should be no problem.

This is likely too late but, I'd suggest the Avids
