Road Cycling - Saddles With Holes.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Do saddles with holes really protect you against impotence from riding a bike?Has any cyclist had numb nuts from riding a saddle
with a hole?

The saddles are for "special riders" who use a "special cycling short" that allows them to "GO" while on the bike.
You just lean forward into a good "tuck" position -- and let it flow.
The time saved by not having to stop, wins many races for these elite few riders......

Personally, I like my hole-ey Flite Trans Am saddle. It does the job and I don't like having to chose between cycling and sex.

Yes, Yes, I've seen that saddle, it comes with the new "improved" prophylactic insert... you can't even tell it's there.....

That's a (snicker) hard choice!

Be extra careful when using the front brake during this maneuver though.

My point is is there any evidence to support the claims that these saddles protect against impotence caused from cycling.
The debate still goes on about cycling and impotence, but every
uroligist says there is a link to some degree or another.
But if these saddles do not help whats the point of having them.
Beware, the uroligist that started all this says that you can become impotent from cycling even without feeling any numbness
or pain,so changing to a saddle which stops numbness may not prove anything.

These links will give you some good information.

Thanks.I have read these articles.
The problem is that none are what i would call independant
studies. On one hand you have the uroligist whos data is unpublished, and on the other hand you have the cycling expert who is not a medical doctor.
Even the inventor of the body geom saddle has not published any data,to back up his claims that his saddle is any better than a standard saddle.
What does make me wonder though, and this may not seem related, but hear me out.
I have a condition known as glaucoma.Increased pressure with in the eye over time causes the optic nerve to die,if the pressure is not brought down blindness can result. Now do you get my point it is increased pressure in the area of the perineam which is supposed to cause nerve damage to the males working parts.
See my point, what can kill nerves in one part of the body may very well kill nerves in another part.So do these saddles really reduce the pressure in the intended area?

I've got a saddle with a hole on my hybrid and a saddle with a groove on my roadbike.I like the groove better.I like to move from the front to back of the saddle to use different muscles in my legs.Moving to the front of a saddle with a hole is uncomfortable for me.Just like moving your hands to different positions on the handle bars prevents numbness,so does moving your butt. But to each their own in the saddle department.

Hello Orbit
I see you're still trolling with the old impotence on wedgies myth. I'm surprised you haven't struck with the BENTS ARE BETTER arguement yet, but I guess that's coming.
Good to see you're still pushing the same old line.
Have a nice day.:D

Hillyman, would the saddle on your road bike be a serfas? I've been trying to decide between serfas, koobi, Terry Fly, and prolink trans am. They all have their fans, and those Brooks people are like a cult. All the confusion has left me riding on my uncomfortable Body Geometry saddle.

No Its just a Coda Expert.Selle Italia.Heavy duty synthetic cover.Thats another thing that drives me nuts about that saddle with a hole,Its leather and it cracks as soon as you turn your head away from it.I have enough worry about my tires cracking,I don't need my saddle doing it too.
