Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Polished Velocity rims

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just talked to Travis and he's ordering a set of the polished fusions for me(which will be used for a friend's wheelset). I also talked to him about polished deep v rims. Just an FYI that they can be ordered, but the wait will be a little long since they will need to be made in Australia. I'm thinking that if the finish looks good I'm going to order a set of deep Vs for myself. If any other SF people want to order with me it might be a bit faster than all of us ordering at different times, not really sure though...
i still want the polished deep v's. i am in. though curious to see what they look like, but still in :) PM me and i'll do whatever is suggested to get them ordered :)

i saw a kid downtown riding a decal-less chrome pista with polished deep-v's and corkless nitto track drops. i suppose the general consensus around here would be "hipster" but it looked sweet.

Judah, I was planning to try and polish some myself as a last resort..........so thanks for the heads up.

c'mon, what's wrong with a little alzheimer's? (aluminum dust) actually, I was thinking of doing the same myself. getting some non-machined deep v's and polishing them up. luckily I have a few other projects to finish before I consider that one again. I made a polished aluminum beer tap handle last year and it took me the better part of a day to polish the 14" of 1" aluminum tube I used. but when I was done it was bling'n.
are they alum? no?? steel does not polish. there is a place in downtown oakland that does an amazing job. 100$ min. maybe 2 pair for 100$ 25 per rim? would be cheaper through velocity.

bump.
any word on the polished deep v's? i need to build some wheels.
Well, looks like I'm getting polished fusions. I was over at Freewheel Hayes on Saturday and he said they were still on order. Showed me a bunch of people's order slips from Velocity (Clayton, your bike will look nice with white deep Vs) and said that the order keeps getting pushed back from Australia...
Yesteray I put a deposit down on the 2nd set of all white deep v's coming in to freewheel. Yay!
I just got some Deep-V ProElite tubular rims in the hand-polished and clear-anodized version. They're pretty sharp. I had to purchase one more pair than I really needed, so if anyone's interested in a pair, send me a PM. Very pretty satin finish and they removed all the machining marks on the braking surfaces so yes, they look great.

I ordered a set of the polished non-machined fusions over a month and a half ago. The shipment that velocity just got didn't have any polished/bright dipped rims so it looks like I'm waiting for the next shipment which is mid October.
Are the rest of you waiting as well? Or did you just give up like I'm considering.
waiting :) either white or polished fusions should be mid october i'm told :)

I just got a set of polished silver deep Vs.
Aparently my LBS had to do some arm wrangling to get them.
Definitely worth the 6 week wait.
Are all of these you guys are talking about non-machined?
hyperRevue

are they shiny bright polished silver or slightly frosted?

its funny. I revived this thread and still no pics.
c'mon. If you don't have a camera, go ride your bike in front of a webcam in your city and give us the web address.
Also, please clarify whether you ordered the bright dip or polished. There was a thread where John distinguished the 2, but last time I was on the phone with velocity they told me that there was no such thing as polished-just bright dip.
I'm just really tired of waiting. Are there any good alternatives out there?

If I remember right I remember seeing a chrome & polish place down by one of the Alameda-bound overpasses, near the Albertson's, Big Lots!, and a shell station. It's been a few years though, a yeller pages lookup would probably be more reliable than my memory. Gotta love the East Bay though, you can get any material or fabrication done there, not to mention the fortune cookie factory.
i am calling bullsh*t... do the polished deep v's really exist? I have yet to see them.

I just got the same wheelset about 3 weeks ago.
As I said, took my LBS about 6-7 weeks to get the rims.

I've got a set of those being built right now. They look better in person :)
as far as i know, i have the only set in the us. and there 650's for michelle's 650c track bike. the finish is not that great. the eai pollished is better looking. i still need some 28h cheap hubs for her.

My polished fusions came in yesterday and I'm not impressed by the "polish" or "bright dip." I am planning on building them up anyways, but if I could find a comparable (priced and bombproof) rim in a true polish I'd sell these and swap them out for some true bling.
At this point though I realize that's all I'm after. Which seems really silly. Which brings me back to the fact that I'll probably just build them up.
People - look for the polished FIR EA10 rim. Hard to get but that's what you're really looking for.

And Yojimbo's is the elusive source?

I can see where, if you were looking for bling in this wheel, you would be disappointed. It is definitely not a mirror shine but I still kind of dig it :) We'll see how they look built up and shining in the sun this weekend :)

i know of several places that'll polish anything, oakland is a city of bling. i'll ask a few friends where they have gotten their custom work done as to find out who's the best.
i'm going go ahead and grab a set of non-machined and go ahead and get them done, these polished v threads, my opening them thinking someones done it, only to be disappointed time and time again...while shaking fist in air, has pushed me over the edge :D
And Yojimbo's is the elusive source?
Marcus has just one 36-hole rim. I was going to get a pair to lace to my Campy Record hubs but he didn't have a pair. I have asked him to hunt me down some which he is looking into at his supplier. He'll be getting a few sets in if he can get 'em just to keep around. He likes them a lot. They are a lower-profile V, like the aeroheads but with a slightly wider section. A very sturdy beefy but decently light rim.

Is that rim machined? Any chance you could take a pic of that single 36h one next time your in the shop? They sound like what I'm looking for, so I may be able to throw yojimbo a few bones to aid in the hunt.

speaking of polished velocitys... www.chainringtransitauthrity.com
Lynn spent 3 hours polishing the already 'polished' deep Vs, to a mirrot finish to match a set of phil hubs for a sydney messenger. Impossible is nothing.
