Touring - Another Tent thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking to pick up a nice two person tent for all around weather conditions (nothing to extreme). I like shorter (2-3 week) tours.
The three tents I'm looking at right now are
MSR Zoid 2.0
MSR Huba Huba
Bigagnes Seedhouse 2
I've read good things about the zoid and huba. Anyone have experience with the seadhouse?
I have the Seedhouse 1 SL and I'm very happy with it even in a variety of weather conditions. I'm sure that you would be happy with the Seedhouse 2.

I urge you to consider the GoLite Hex or the Black Diamond Megalight instead of these. The GoLite Hex is just awesome and light weight
Do you have the opportunity to check these out in person?
I've seen the huba huba and it's pretty cool.

I have used the MSR Zoid 2 for the past couple years for backpacking trips. It's well made and the 2 separate entrances are nice. It's not the biggest tent around though, so you better like the person you're sharing the tent with. If price is part of your consideration, the Zoid 2 is on sale at the following website for $109 - Zoid 2 (http://backcountrygear.com/catalog/tentdetail.cfm/MSR5160)

I'm really leaning towards the MSR zoid 2. For the price
(Zoid 2 + footprint = 162.00 shipped) I'm not sure it can be beat.

I noticed this is the 2003 model. How does it differ from the newer models? Looks like a great deal, but I am ever the skeptic. Anyone have the 2003?

Sead0nkey, did you go with the Zoid 2? I'm about to embark on my first tour, and thinking I should buy a new tent. Like you said the price seems right. Just curious to hear any thoughts on the tent. Maybe some pics, such as how big it will be we strapped down to the bike/trailer.
Good luck :)

I have the 2003 model. I believe the newer models have about 2-3" more head room and are a couple of ounces lighter than the 2003 model. It really is a great deal. In my opinion, I don't think you could find a better tent in that price range.

I have a 2002 Zoid 2, but I'm not sure if it's significantly different.
Quality tent, and the lifetime warranty on the poles is pretty choice. It's a cinch to set up. Skip the expensive footprint though, unless you don't mind throwing money at things. You can make your own easily out of a cheap Coleman tarp or a $1.50 plastic painter's tarp.
I must say though, that it advertises as a 2-person, but it's really more like a 1.5-person tent. You'd have to be pretty intimate with whomever you share it with.

No not yet. I'm not in a huge hurry so I'm doing allot of research before I buy.

I was pretty much sold on the Zoid 2 until I saw the Go-lite Hex 3. I love the idea of all that head room and space to stash gear. It's pricey, especially if I splurge for the nest, but it looks like one of those purchases that fall under the " good investment" category.
Anyone have the Hex 3?

I have the Hex 2 and picked up a bug canopy instead of the nest. Do a google search, any you can hang it from the loops inside the tent. It is an incredible tent.

That's a good price for the zoid but is that a freestanding tent? I insist on free standing because you never know where you'll be spending the night. It's tough to find a good tent site in a rocky location, especially when you need to sink some tent pegs.
