This guy, a German, is very popular along the Tour and has been for many years now. He is usually visible at all the mountain stages.

is it my imagination, or was he wearing green in one of the stages?
I saw this same guy at the world cycling championships in my home town of Hamilton, Canada. I was just a lowly mountain biker at that time and had no idea. I thought he was just a strange dude in a devil outfit. Had I known then what I know now, I would have shook his hand. That dude rocks.
The Devil is awesome! He is Didi Senft and also holds the record for building the world's largest bicycle:

One amusing thing I read is that Didi will go up the road one or two kilometers from where he will be positioned and paint a few tridents on the road to alert the riders he's up ahead. That man is a crazy genius.

I like the guy in the red speedo and afro wig.
I hate to ask... pics?
Stage 8: Pieter Weening (Rabobank) cresting the summit of Col de la Schlucht with an enthusiastic fan chasing him...

That's a BIG bike! How does one get on and off of it, I wonder? (or get it started with those massive wheels!)
at least that guy is covering his butt, unlike the guy in yesterday's stage with the yellow umbrella hat.

I laughed so hard I was crying-- whata tool that guy was. The little umbrella hat really made it priceless!

Anyone care to venture a guess as to his nationality and state their reasons?
