Is there any distance or situation that Ullrich would have an edge?

What about a short climb?

How about a track event like the 4km pursuit or kilo?

In other words, is there any way that Ullrich could beat him?

He can probably out drift him in a Porsche 911 too. Just move the bike racks out of the way first.

This year's 1k Giro d'Italia prologue. I think Jan could put down a little more short-range speed than Lance at that distance. I would ****ing love to see that duel too. Talk about crossing swords.

Armstrong has consistantly been better in the short ITTs.
Lost 15 seconds in 6km's last year.

I Like Jan a lot. Probably has more talent than Armstrong, bit of fun in the off season, do a bit of coke, have a laugh, go for a spin in the old Porsche, and STILL finish top 3 in the Tour.

Just like me..........................except minus the Porsche.........coke..........tour....

Don't discount the fact that this is fully 3 weeks into the Tour, and Armstrong appears to have recovery & physical advantages over most other riders. Put him up against a fully rested Ullie, Rogers, and others in a one-off TT at the Worlds in Sept./Oct., and I would rate Armstrong 'only' an equal favorite for the win.

And of course, if he's lacking in motivaton, then he certainly can be beat... but since we practically only see him at the Tour, motivation has never been an issue.

So my answer is 'yes'; if he raced more not only would he be beaten, he'd be beaten rather frequently- but I doubt by a very large margin, and I don't think any one person would consistently beat him in any discipline.

And Ullrich does not normally pick up time on Armstrong late- on the contrary, Armstrong usually beats him in the final TT.
