I'm considering getting Dahon Roo El electric folding bike ... but I haven't found too many people who have actually ridden one. I've also heard that A to B Magazine has a review of it in their June 2005 issue, but I don't know how to get ahold of that in the states.

My reason for thinking folding bike is a total lack of storage space and unforgivable weather in Texas. I haven't had experience riding one at all. But I like the idea.

My reason for think electric is that (a) I have a bad back, and hill climbing on my bike sometimes triggers it, and thus a bit of assist sounds nice; and (b) it's about 105 degrees here every day during the summer, and commuting can become impossible on a bike ... but, with a little boost, maybe I could handle it.

Thoughts?

I think you have the right idea about the bike ... some people make me wonder when they talk about max speed, max distance, max hillclimb and stuff like that ... It is a great bike to assist while riding a bicycle ( versus a moped )

If it make life a little easier and you go out and ride it, when the other bike seems to just a little too much to handle , the el is the bike for you

My second idea, actually, is to get something really efficient, like a Speed Pro, that would counter some of the comfort features I have on my current bike -- a huge, bulky cruiser. If I could ride more efficiently, I might not need a boost at all. This is what I'm considering more and more.
