so ive been riding with one of those super thick kool bmx chains for a while.. its still got life in it and isnt stretched to **** but today my crank arm started hitting the chain on its way up. it took me a long time to realize what was actually going on. so i put a new chain on when i got home and will see how it runs tomorrow when working but has anyone heard of a crank arm bending at all? im 200lb and ride 9 hour days hard and brakeless.. im wondering if too many angeled skids/skips has bent the arm in a little?

it is totally possible to bend a crankarm, but i think you'd have to ride REALLY hard to bend one, unless it is pretty old, but it is pretty easy to tell if you've bent it...take something flat, and put it up against the arm...straight?, although, if it's hitting the chain, i think you could eyeball it.

I've straightened a lot of crankarms in the last couple months. Bending happens.
Any bike shop can bend it back quickly with the proper tool (trust me, you don't want to see them do it to your baby though)
I would venture to guess that your crankarm got hit by something, or your bike was laying down and then something happened. Major bendage of a quality crankarm isn't something that is going to happen with normal (if you consider skipping normal) use.
Like they said, it's pretty hard to bend a crankarm. Probably your chain was so loose that it was slapping up against the tip of the crank. You'd see it if your crankarm was bented.
