I went bike shopping today and cried when I found that I could no longer complete a full pedal stroke on a traditional style bike due to limited range of motion in one of my knees. I was wondering if pedaling a recumbent bike is easier on knees with a limited range of motion is easier. Any help and advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.
If you use short cranks ie. 150's on a trike you should be able to get by with very limited movement. make sure the gearing is very low, from experience it will help greatly with knee problems. The reason I said trike is personal experience (full range but dodgy knee) it is easier to "carry" a knee when you don't have to consider balance at low speeds ie. up hill.
Good luck
So now your next step is to find a dealer, and try one out. Have them fit 150mm cranks if the trike doesn't have them already.

It's only fair to point out that short cranks can be put on an upright bike, too.
