Either fit some "butterfly" style bars to give you lots of hand-hold options, or keep your current flats and add some aerobar extensions to give you a good aerodynamic cruising position.
There are things called Newk extensions which sort of replicate drop bars, but they are a poor imitation.
Most riders dont use the drops very often , so you will probably be better off with an aero option.

Do ypu know the names of any of these types of bars, specifically the butterfly type ? Can i use my Mountain bike bar style components on these bars ?

Moustash bars by Nitto. check www.rivendellbycybles.com .Not mtb bikey compatible.diameter is too large for levers and shifters.Controls on your specailized dont fit drop bars either. You could use drop bars, bar end shifters and aero road levers. the only drop br that fits your stem clamp diameter of 25.4mm is a Nitto.Other drop car clamp diameers are 25.8 and up.

Check out Modolo anatomic treking bars . They replace MTb style bars and take MTB style brakes.

I went with drop bar ends. $30 & a turn of the screw got me close enough to the feel of drop bars with no component rearranging. It may not be what you're looking for but it is an option.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Far less money and the controls stay as they were since it doesn't sound like you are looking to change the controls.
I have Profile Aerostryke(sp) aero bars on my Sirrus and have also been considering bar ends but probably won't add them.

Those Modolo bars look sweet ! I am not into the profile bars look but I need the benefit of multiple hand positions. My shoulders get sore on my long rides (long for me anyways 100-120 km day rides) with one hand position on my sirrus. Thanks for all the great posts !

I find multiple hand position options indispensable. I would have suggested drops, hooded brake levers, and barcons, but your other respondents have good, economical suggestions.

Welcome to the 2001 Specialized Sirrus club. I also wanted more hand positions on my Sirrus. But I ended up buying a road bike.

The Sirrus is a road bike, it just doesn't have drops. Look at the components of an 01 or 02 Sirrus Pro, Comp or Elite and you will see that they are road bikes.

My bike is the 2001 Sport and it is definitely a hybrid it has Deore Components (MTB). I love my bike I just need some options for hand positions for long rides....my shoulders/neck are killin me !

Has anyone else had to change the bottom bracket after about 1000 km's (on a Sirrus Sport) that is ? Other general maintenance discussions appreciated !

But we have the lowest model the "Sport" which has Deore front/rear deraileurs, brake levers & Shifters. And it also has a compact frame.

I think it's more of a hybrid/road. Just my opinion.

If you know anyone who wants to buy a SMALL Sirrus Sport, let me know. I'm planning to sell mine. It's only about 2 months old and only has 200 miles on it.

How much did you pay for your Sirrus and when did you get it?

See, if you want to convert to drop bars, you'll have to change the brakes and maybe the shifters...i'm not sure if Deore is compatible with STI shifters.

Don't know how much it'll cost. Anyone have a clue? Can Deore be used in conjunction with road equipment?

I didn't want to say that about the "lower" models as I didn't want to offend. But yes, I would consider the lower models hybrids due to the gearing, components & weight.

It may be a lower model but that is just a monetary view, its a cadillac to me ! And I ride it often....I know I deserve a Litespeed, AirBourne, or Merlin but I am quite content with my Sirrus Sport for now ! I paid 700 Canadian for it this spring !:)

Well I purchased some Profile Century Zb Aerobars today they are going on tonigt hopefully this will improve the overall hand positions and wind dilema ! Anyone else try these I know they are bottom end but for 60 $ CAN it was the fastest and cheapest solution.
