I don't HAVE a car sitting in the drive way, Boston. The only way my situation is different is that I have a drivers liscense, so that when an emergency arrises, I can be part of the solution instead of saying "well, maybe we can balance your 40 lbs dog on my handlebars and I'll follow you on my fixie in 75 MPH winds and rains."

I'm not saying he has to buy a car, just that having a drivers lisence might come in handy. What's worse, driving a car everywhere because people say to, or not knowing how to drive one because some other group of people say not to?

Knowledge is power - including knowing how to drive.

Everyone's situation is different... In my situation I happen to need a car for emergencies. When/if that need arises I can borrow one, rent one or whatever. I applaud you that you have such great living arrangements that that need never comes up... I wish that was mine.

No shame in being prepared for the worst, even if the worst is needing/wanting to drive one day. Oh the humanity! :)

I guess my final word on it is, it's silly to limit your options for the sake of cool points.

go nola, go nola,
Its your birthday!

just kidding. But nola does have good points here. My point is that car free can be defined in different ways. In my way I am going to try to avoid it as much as I can. I am going to get it, because well. I am. It makes me feel better knowing that if it does come to that day where it is pouring and horrid thunder storms, ill be able to borrow my moms car. Thats that.
