At some point I read that you should mix so much vaseline with a warming cream for winter riding to keep legs warm. Does anyone know what this mix should be? 2:1? Or any other tips. There are certain parts of my body that just need some extra 'de-sensitizing' to the winter elements. (i.e. fingertips, knees, etc.)
Thanks :)

I've found it's best to apply the warming cream first, let it penetrate the skin, then apply the vaseline. I've used lotions that combine the two into one, and it doesn't seem to work as well. I think the vaseline prevents the warming cream from penetrating the skin and doing its job.

I use tiger balm oil.. I put it in a spray bottle, 12 ounces of distilled water to 4 ounces of oil.. Shake and spray on legs.. Rub it in and it keeps your legs warm.. You can put vaseline on for an extra layer of protection but I found that this combo keeps my legs plenty warm..
You can buy the oil from ebay, this has been the best source and pretty good price..

A company called Aloelife International has a Vanilla rub that is phenomenal, if a little pricey. But I think it is worth it and it's called 'Body Heat'. Love that name!

Vaseline? Holy CARP, I had no idea. Winter people have my sympathy.

It's all silliness. Sounds like a perfectly good waste of vaseline to me. The way to keep your legs warm is to pedal quickly. It has worked for me for years at temps well below zero.

I like to use orthogel as a warming cream peior to a winter ride. It has many of the same ingredients as the warming creams, but also has MSM and Glucosamine in the mix. I get mine at www.cheaprelief.com
I would never use vaseline as it will clog your pores etc.
