Help me find the rightful owner of this cute little fixed gear conversion. I bought it off some dudes in my neighorhood for $40, and I know whoever converted this bike would have paid much more if they had been the one given a chance to buy it.

Anyhow, hopefully someone on the forum will recognize the description and be able to get the owner in contact with me so I can give the bike back to them.

Its a red conversion, shorter, perhaps a womans bike. black handlebar wraps. most distinguishing characteristic is a homemade logo on the stem tube. it says "Larceny" in styleized letters.

I picked up the bike in Oakland so I figure its an East Bay person....

I also posted on craiglist, and that might be an easier way to email me. Hope this works.

Man! I got all excited, thinking that this was my long lost (ie., stolen) Mercier conversion (52 cm)...But that was green...

yeah, my digital capabilities arent the best, but I'll probably post a pic of some sort later today.

I was thinking of posting a partial foto, or one with some identifying details missing....I dont know, any suggestions on how to post a picture and still protect against the wrong person trying to claim the bike?

i think your description is probably sufficient. it's just...you can't talk about a fixed gear bike around here without people screaming for photos. heck, someone was talking about an acid puddle on State St in Chicago and people wanted photos.

You're right about withholding the photo. I wouldnt be surprised if the former owner has identifying photographs of his/her own.

I still want photos of the acid spill aftermath!

Yeah, i want to see it, but a photo would make it hard for someone to positively identify. You should ask what kind of hubs it has or what color bartape or something.

Good luck finding the owner! Its good of you to get on the search.

peace,

Better yet ask him or her if they rember any memorable spills that may have left minor damage on it. I know my specialized (stolen last year) had a dent on drive side of the down tube. Happened while leaning on a sign post waiting for a light to turn green. I also know specific parts and where they were bought. This thread reminds me I have print out a small piece of paper with my info, laminate it and drop it down the seat tube of my new bike.

Success! So I havent delivered the bike yet, but I'm almost positive that I am in contact with the rightful owner. We'll see how the hand off goes, but I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks for comments and keeping an eye out.

Now that I've found him, maybe I'll post a picture of his bike, just for fun. ha!
