BMX - Good bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Coming back to your roots now? What kind of riding are you planning on doing?

Just planning to do street riding.
You have to be a bit more specific. Are you going to ride to 7-11 for a slurpee, or are you going to get into flatland (tricks with just you and your bike, plus maybe some public property) or are you going to go to parks and ride ramps and bowls and jumps? Asking about a good BMX is like asking about a good MTB - you need to provide more info.

I'd be going to that skate park every now and then but I would mostly be doing a lot of that flatland stuff you described.
Have you searched the other threads yet? You'll be looking for a full cro-mo frame/fork combo, 36 or 48 spoke wheels with a chrome back wheel, and 3 piece cranks.

flatland AND a little park...
hmmmm, are there even any completes out there that you could do that with?
the only pros ive seen ride flat and park are like Chad Degroot and Paul Osticka (spelled his name wrong)

Plenty. It's becoming a popular combination; all you need is a fairly lightweight setup with slightly more compact geometry (but not full-out flatland 18.5" TT). There are a number of completes that fit the bill and a number more that can be made to fit without much hassle.

Mosh no longer makes completes, though you may find some for sale...there last years models, Mosh is striving to become more of a "parts" company with there cranks, seats, brake pads, chainwheels and wheels (which are made @ the same factory as the Odyssey wheels)

i guess, becuase my friend has a 19" TT GT Compe and he rides flat sometimes and has no trouble taking it to the skatepark and sometimes to the trails...

Troy get a 2003 Redline Recon There high durability you can street ride em dirt ride em and vert ride em without any trouble except there a little heavy but thats cause everything on it is Phat Bulky dropout phat axels everything on this bike is heavy duty. there is a few things you might wanna do though like buy some metal pedals cause this bike come equipped with plastics and put a little Simple green or soda pop on the rim ther good brakes but they just dont do the job sometimes.

DD John, born without a clue.
And just to ask, exactly what makes you a "certified" MTBer? Did you graduate from MTB University with a BS in Suspension?
Beerman got up on the wrong side of the bed today?

No, but I did wake up with a nice hangover from a 32 of High Life, a 24 of Corona, and some vodka, and then went out to the university to pay $1700 for tuition, and am now at work, building computers and copying documents.

sounds like fun beerman. oh yeah, are you going to be ridding flatland, or are you clueless to what that one guy was talking about when he said that? i think he meant riding street and park, not flatland.

John you seriously have no idea what you're talking about. Redline isn't what its made up to be. I could probably break your bike in a day if that. Also beerman, is probably one of the best BMXers in this forum.

Oh, I'm sorry that I offended you by calling you out on your ignorance along with your lack of a grasp of the English language.

A $180 Redline complete with a hi-tensile steel frame is anything but "high durability". And just about every freestyle frame on the market works with 14mm (oh, excuse me, "phat axles"), and thick dropouts (I mean... "phat bulky dropouts").

Just because you haven't posted very much in the last month doesn't mean that you're off the hook.

I need to go make some popcorn before I log on. Quality entertainment. DD John needs to understand that anyone caught talking out their ass quickly gets exposed for not knowing much.

Anyone who doesnt know why their crank moves when their feet aren't on it shoudl have their bike removed immediately.

Considering that there's probably a good half-dozen reasons for that happening that I can think of off the top of my head, starting with a broken freewheel and ending with the rider doing a Porter crankflip, I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there.
FireTeamCharlie
08-03-05, 03:35 PM
Well the kid couldn't tell his crank was too loose. Heres all the ways i can think of the happening, Crank too loose, Chain too tight, seized chain, bents freewheel. Thats about it.
I'll just state that a little humility goes a long way. Beerman, BMXTRIX and DJ Snazzy Jeff have more experience with current BMX stuff, but my overall cycling experience and knowledge of sales, marketing and economics is probably greater than theirs. Not that it means anything, but I at least try to stick with what I know, and I certainly don't try to pretend I know everything.

You got all the skills and knowledge that make money. No fair! :(

Don't forget that opportunity plays a big role. I once scored more than $10k in bike parts for about $400, and all I had to do was cart it all away. While BMX may be a lifestyle for you guys, it's just part of a hobby for me. Since I no longer have a 400hp '68 Camaro or modified Landcruiser to tinker with, I get to play with bikes. The business side just happens naturally.

I use my free time to come up with great ideas like a spinorfk(spoon Knife Fork), or BMX Ice drag racing(extremely painful when you fall)
You can get a spork at Taco Bell. Just don't eat anything there with it.

To berate, or not to berate? That is the question.
