I am looking for a nice set of road race/training type tires. I typically ride 25 or more miles, have Mavic wheels...hmmm....I will probably go for a 23 wide, and comfort is not so important. I may ride far, but I'm young enough to take a little abuse. :p

I tried searching, but as you can imagine, every thread around has "tire" in it.

I have Mavic wheels on my Sirrus and have 700x26 Specialized Armadillos and on my Fuji Roubaix, I have Ritchey OCR with Michelin Axial Pros.

Both have been great for me...although I haven't put much miles on the Michelin yet.

I always like my Continenal SuperSport Ultras. They seemed to wear well and resist cuts from glass. Whenever I can scrape up the money to build up my road frame, I'm going to try some of the Ultra 2000's (http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/themes/tires/race/ultra_2000/ultra_2000_en.html), which appear to be the successor to the SuperSport Ultra.

You didn't say where you ride (streets with trash, bikepaths, country roads, etc.).

I ride on roads that are littered with lots of glass and metal debris. I tried Michelin Axial Pros (700x23) on my road bike (Mavic Open Pro wheels) but averaged a flat a week. Got rid of the Michelins. Replaced with Continental Grand Prix 3000 (http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/themes/tires/race/race_en.html).

I had Continental Ultra 2000 tires (700x25) on my commuter (Mavic CX21 wheels). Had great success with the Contis but ran out of tread so replaced. Found a deal on Vittoria Rubino Pro Intrepid Kevlar (http://www.vittoria.com/catalogo_2002_vittoria_geax/rubino_pro.htm#Ultra Speed / triathlon).

Ride and cornering are good.
Very happy with both tires. :beer:

I think I am going to check out the Grand Prix 3000 and the Ultra 3000. Right now I use a bike path - little glass or other obstructions to speak of. Later on though I will be on the street a lot more often. I have yet to experience a flat while riding....

Really??? I guess I have to be more careful then. I only logged on about 10 or so miles on the Axial Pros. Thanks for the heads up. :beer:
