I just got back from a ride with a friend of mine that has me at 33 miles so far today. It's about 4pm here, and at 9-9:30 I'm going out on a group ride that will probably net me another 30 miles.

So I'm wondering if this would count as a metric century... I'm stopping for a few hours inbetween and going to eat something, shower and clean up my bike - got totally dumped on by a severe thunderstorm on my way to meet my friend for the first ride...

They are in my book, too, I was just wondering how other people count centuries and metric centuries...

I guess it would be a metric century in a day, similar to but not a metric century in one sitting, if ya know what I mean.

Whatever. Just ride.

I wouldn't do a metric century in one sitting. There'd have to be at least one beer stop..

:D

I generally consider any miles done in a single calender day as counting towards a total which can be considered a sort of single ride. Now riding a distance with just potty breaks and snack breaks is a bit more impressive. But if you can string together two 35 milers, for example, you can probabably do 70.

Now I don't consider rides done in any 24 hour period as counting. It is not fair to ride in the evening then go to sleep and get up early and do another ride and splice together that mileage as a "single day".

But shoot, I suppose you can count it any way you want as long as you are up front what your methodology is. I guess everyone will have their own standards.

As long as you're not telling people you completed a metric in (ride time of first part + ride time of second part); count it as (finish time of last ride - start time of first ride) . . . but otherwise, sure, why not. Miles are miles (or rather, kilometers are kilometers in this case). Just completed a 250K last week myself (all of last week!) :)

I did my first ride of over 100 km almost two weeks ago.
Would've been 114 km if my BB hadn't cracked at 104.5... :)

Anyway, I didn't ride straight through. I think I stopped four or five times. Only for a few minutes each time though, but I still stopped.
Not sure where you'd draw the line between calling it one ride and calling it two separate ones in the same day...

I ended up putting the first ride into the activebody.org site, then resetting the computer. So I guess that is how I'll measure it. I'll still feel good about getting two 30+ mile rides in one day, but I'll leave the metric century designation for another ride...

Maybe next weekend...

If I pedal out to the mailbox and back I score it as a triple foot century. It's at least 150 feet to the mail box, one way. But since I stop to get the mail, can I really count it as a triple? Or is it 2 - 1 1/2's? My wife contends it is really just a double yard century. But I like using feet, it seems farther somehow. I will admit that it is a fairly easy run. Not too much climbing and I stay in shade most of the way.

It only counts if you stayed in your bike clothes in the interval between legs of the ride.

Bummer. They were soaked, and I let them dry out. Ended up with another 33 miles on the night ride, so it's 66 and change for the day. I feel good about that.

My legs don't really like me though. I think they'd prefer that I had brakes at least, and might be happier if I had gears and could coast...

I think there is a corollary rule that says if you stayed nekkid while your clothes dried out, it's still the same ride. If you got dressed in between, no way.
