Last night I was on a downward-sloping road loading a bike on my bike rack. I shifted some weight forward which seemed to center on my right big toe. All of a sudden I saw this flash of white light and this pain coming from my toe that seemed issued from the underworld. Since then, my toe has felt strange. Not necessarily a painful feeling but something that's definitely not right. Any theories on why my toe resigned from active duty all of a sudden? Some suggestions I've heard: torn tendon, a break, gout.
Geez. I guess I'm going to the doctor.

Could it be you've pinched a nerve?. It tends to give almost a burning pain.

I had a similar thing hapen the other day, but it was in the middle of my foot. I was climbing a hill, heard a pop - snap, and a tingly feeling in the arch of my foot. I honestly thought I broke or tore somthing - which I did - the cabon fiber plate in my shoe.

I am unaware of proper medial terminology regarding foot parts but if you care to know what happened to my toe: the ball of your feet contain two bones which guide in your big toe's tendon. El Podiatristo and I think I sort of blew the tendon right out of that bony groove. Some kind of tendonitis at this point - chondro-whatever-blitis or something. It's not broken. But I have one regular foot and then this one big Mickey Mouse foot. I'm out of the game for a few days. :(

That sucks - I hope it heals well - hang in there.

I hurt my little toe last month. I caught it on a cement car bumper. I didn't know little toes could stretch to 45 degree angle.
I was on a 7 day tour, it was only the 2nd day. A podiatrist on the ride checked it out, told me nothing was broken and said if I could keep the swelling down I could go ahead and ride!

I couldn't put any weight on my foot. But my cycling shoe made my foot feel so much better. For about 3 days I wore the cycling shoe day and night to help keep the swelling down and to walk.

I rode 250 miles with a sore toe when I couldn't even walk. The podiatrist said it would be tender for 6-8 weeks. He's right, it still hurts!

I asked the doc when I could ride again and he said, "does it matter? I know you're getting right back out there. Sports patients are the worst patients". So, I rode my 'new' road bike in to work today. Just following doctor's orders, right?
