Mountain Biking - Brake noise.

I have a new Norco VPS A-Line and the Hayes HFX-9 discs make a rubbing noise. It's just a certain part of the discs rubbing on the pads therefore making an off and on rubbing noise. [Almost like the discs are bent.. but they're not] These brakes are brand new. Im guessing this happens, and theres no problem? Anything I can do to fix it?

Discs rub, especially 8 inch discs. You could buy disc brake quiet at Canadian tire or someplace.

ya they will rub a bit, just make sure the rotor bolts ar tight(tighten in a star patern). if you really want to fix it put you bike upsidedown and spin the tire, if it only rubs a little bit then all you have to do is loosen the calipur bolts and position the calipure so it doent rub then tightn the bolts, have patience the first time i did this it took me 20 min. but i can do it in about a min now.

the thing is disk brakes rub and they make noises and its just part of having them.

Since hydraulic brakes do not have a return spring for the pads, they will lightly rub against the disc. However, there should be no pressure so they have a negligable effect of riding. In addition, no disc is perfectly flat so they rub a little more in certain wheel positions.

I have mechanical discs. My front one just slightly rubs and makes the most annoying squeek noise. No effect on the riding except the noise. Learn to use the adjustments and how to calibrate the brake. I went with a bit more gap on the front, it has eliminated the squeek and I still have plenty of stopping power.

After a while I think you will find the sweet spot for calibrating and adjusting your breaks if you mess with them some
