The Trek 7000

Does anyone here own one or taken one for a ride? Doing a little research for a bike for the wife. I won't be able to make it to the lbs til Monday so thought I'd try to get a little heads up. She saw it on the trek site and liked it so I thought I'd check into it. She's a little tall and gave me the impression that she does not want a WSD.

I have the not so dissimilar 7200 FX and I've seen the 7000 at my bike shop. I really like my 7200 FX, and the 7000 seemed like a fine bike, too.

I have the 7100 - wife has the 7000 - both are great bikes - just be sure and get properly sized and ride them first!!!!!!

WOW looks like Trek has changed the 7000 over the years...
I love mine, but my 7000 looks a bit more agressive then the one you have in the Picture...

the title of this thread had me interested as well. I raced my 2000 yr. model 7000. Great bike. Although I don't ride it much anymore, I still have it.

I ride my 1994 7000 everyday.

I have an '89 Trek 7000 that's still usable, despite quite a bit of abuse.

I wonder what made them cannibalize an existing number rather than just use a new for the hybrid line. Surely they don't have so many bikes that they ran out of numbers :)

I took a new-to-cycling friend to my local lbs last week intending to buy a 7000. The lbs doesn't stock them but said they could easily get one. They said the reason they don't stock them is because, compared to the rest of the 7X00 lineup the 7000 has lower quality components - more akin to what you'd get at Walmart then a bike shop. The price of the 7000 was $259 and the 7100 was $309. When the lbs offered us the 7100 for $280 we took it.

Incidentally, this lbs offers free lifetime adjustments on any bike they sell - but they feel the lower end bikes end up spending more time in the shop than on the road. Who knows how accurate this info really is but I thought I'd share.

Yep they have changed over the years.... my 7000 was 699.00 new
and another 200.00-250.00 for the Manitou Mach 5 Shocks (11 years ago)
