Commuting - Does whether you commuted or not determine if you are going to have a good day?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have noticed that since I have started commuting the days where I commute tend to be much better. I am more alert, have more energy, and generally more lively. Nothing like a 28km commute to work... Is this true for other commuters?

Absolutely! I always feel better when I ride to work...the energy level is way up and the stress is way down.

Were I not to commute via bicycle, there is now way I could sit behind a desk all day. :D

Yep, generally a commute livens me up for work.

generally I feel more alive after a commute (I tend to have sorted out my day in my head on the way in) and I feel de-stressed by the time I get home.

However, at the moment I'm feeling a bit run down, and I just wonder if a 26 mile commute everyday, combined with work, is taking it out of me.

does anyone else have this feeling?

For what it's worth I can't keep up a 26 mile commute for too many days, but I've been having a streesful time at work, and taking a week of riding in didn't help...

Any day on a bike is better than any day in a cage on wheels!

I'll have a good day whether I commute or not but I certainly enjoy the way I feel after I commute by bike much more than when commuting by auto.

Yes.

In fact, it makes me feel so good that I am sometimes tempted to ride when I should be recovering!

Commuting makes me feel better at work and at home.

It gives me a buffer between both places which lets me leave any stresses from either place behind. That way I don't carry home stresses around at work and I don't carry work stresses around at home.

If I drive it all just seems to blur into one and get compounded.

(Not that either place is really stressful. It's more just a matter of being able to separate the two if you know what I mean.)

Actually, I have to say no. The days when I don't ride to work are the days when I don't go to work at all.

Actually, no. I occasionally even find that I want to spend my riding days sitting down instead of putting books away! :p

But I do really miss the ride, when I take the car. I miss the exercise, and the outdoors, and the sort of mental state you get while biking, where nothing matters but the ride.

And since I'd rather bike than work....

I don't get to commute every day, so when I do it's kind of like a special treat. The morning commute is, during the summer, the most pleasant, as that big ball 'o nuclear fire throws the day into the triple digits by two in the afternoon.

The ride home is enjoyable because I'm not sitting in rush hour traffic. Sure, I may be putting out a lot more effort to get between points A and B, but I don't arrive home wanting to kill people, either.
