I have a Giant TCR Zero - 5 months old, and it has started to creak when I stand and pedal. It is nice and quiet when I sit...It seems to come from the bottom bracket area
I haven't taken the bike for its first service yet, but I am hoping to fix this problem myself

Any ideas?

It could be a few things. Loose crank arms, Loose pedal spindles, or the bottom bracket cups need some grease on the threads. Check them all, until problem is solved. If this does not solve it take it to the LBS you got it from and get its service check.

If you determine that it is the bottom bracket, i read an article where they recommended putting pipe thread tape around the bottom bracket threads. I've owned many Kleins over the years and their bottom brackets always start creaking, this is the one thing I haven't tried.

One thing I've noticed is that my cleats actually
creak when I stand on the pedals. I make sure
that I give them a bit of lube. It actually drove me
nuts after going over all the above.
Agree with Rotifer, try Teflon tape on the bottom
bracket threads, it helps.

creaking sounds can be very deceptive. stand on the pedals when stationary, lean most of your weight on the handlebars and move from side to side, creaking? if so grease stem and bars, No creaking, bounce on the pedals, creaking? buy better pedals, no creaking, ride hard standing up uphill, creaking? check bottom bracket and crank. tcr's a good bike so components shouldn't be the problem.

it was my rear wheel... lol
