Mountain Biking - Trek 4300 help?

Ok i bought a trek 4300 mtb earlier this year! Got a great deal! Under 200.00. Bike was barely used! Looked brand new! Anyway...

I have been riding 3-4 times a week around white rock lake in dallas,tx!

My question is the bike has off road tires on it. Im wondering is their a street tire for this bike?
If so what im thinking of is buying new rims/tires so i can switch them out without removing the tire from the rim.

So i would need new rims-rear with gears and tires. Which tires and rims/gears should i get.
I have no idea where to start. thanks jason

Any MTB wheelset will work, there are none specific to the 4300 (or any other bike that I know of). Just get a 26" MTB wheelset and you'll be straight. As far as tires there are a lot of slick tires made in the 26" size for exactly what you want to do, ride MTBs on the road. The slicks will save the knobbies on your off road tires and also offer MUCH less rolling resistance.

As far as a new rear cassette.. Either pick up a cheap 8sp cassette from online or your LBS, or I personally would hit up eBay. You can get a SRAM PG850 like what came with your bike (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/12911-065_SRA854-3-Parts-51-Cassettes/SRAM-Powerglide-II-PG850-Cassette-8-Speed.htm) for $22 and Pricepoint offers some decent inexpensive machine built wheelsets as well.

Personally I'd take whatever wheelset you buy and put your offroad tires on it and put your slicks on the factory rims as whatever you buy is likely to be better than what cam stock on your 4300.

If you got the disc option you'll also need a new rotor for your spare wheelset and make sure to buy a disc compatible wheelset..

www.bikecanada.com has super cheap rims and wheels for you if you don't have the money. This is as close as you can get to 11 dollar rims. There are ones that are 20 CAD, laced and everything, though you cannot expect quality from those. Yeppers. Not sure if you're in Canada though.
A ton of stuff is super cheap (read: xtr brake cables - 4.33 CAD, etc. etc. etc.). However, you give your credit card number to a guy on the other side of the phone. My friend used BikeCanada but hasn't had any complaints...yet.

Sure, you can have a double set of wheels/tires. However, I just swapped tires on and off when I wanted to make a change. Seemed like only slightly more work. I've run the Tioga City Slicker (not sure if they even make that anymore), basically a baldy with a groove down the middle and a squiggle on each side; worked great for me, even for mild off-road!
