The basics are that I love just about anything on 2 wheels. I've ridden bicycles since a kid and built my first chopper out of spare parts (a 5-speed center shift Stingray copy) and have never looked back. Most of my younger years consisted of cycling for transportation and it wasn't until I was stationed in Spain while in the Marines that I began to set distance goals. It was there in 1992 that I rode my first century. I did the trip on a Trek 750 multitrack and still ride the bike all the time. I think part of the allure of the Trek to me is knowing where all it has been.

I also have a Cannondale R300 roadbike that I'm making an effort to spend more time on this year. I live in Warren, PA which is the gateway to the Allegheny National Forest, and tend to set up routes for my rides that are a combination of road/easy trail, so the roadbike has taken back seat.

When I'm not pedaling and still crave 2-wheels, I'm out on my '01 Honda ACE 750. I enjoy motorcycling and put in quite a few miles there as well.

One of my goals is to cyclotour around Lake Erie; if you're in the area and it sounds like a trip you'd be interested in, drop me a line.

Hi Bikenriden:

Welcome. I used to be a PA resident over on the Philly end of the state. Now I live in a desert in southern AZ and love it.

Winters can be a little harsh though. There were a few days last year where I had to ride with the temperature in the 40's. It's even snowed a few times since my arrival in 1983. Snow usually shovels itself by 8 AM though:p

Thanks for the welcome Carl. I moved around quite a bit in the Marines and can say that if I get the opportunity to move back out of the winters here I'll probably take it. If you can figure out a way to make PA snow self-shoveling you'll make a mint!

:)
