Mountain Biking - FREE SHIMANO M-505 clipless pedals for a lucky dude

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Alrighty kids, here's the deal:

I recently bought a new Kona Hoss Dee-Lux and had the LBS put new Egg beaters on immediately. They handed me the M 505 clipless pedals in a bag, but offered me credit for them if I wanted.. i refused, and try to sell them on Ebay. Guess what? The pedals are still in the bag, cause nobody wants 'em. They're brand-friggin new. Thats where YOU come in. You can have them. For Free. I'm just a nice guy. This site has supplied me with great info and some helpful hints, so now I'm giving back. I did set up some rules though:

1. Dont be a D!@k. I want you to use these pedals, and not try to sell them or trade them for food or sex.
2. While we're on the subject of trades, I like stuff too. So if you got something to trade, even if its a dumb t shirt, mention it and I might be interested.
3. If no one offers to trade for em, I'll pick one of you based on your post.
4. I'm not shipping anywhere beside the US, and I'll even pay the shipping.
5. I know this concept has been mentioned before, but screw it, I'm starting a new thread.
6. I'll pick a lucky hammerhead by the end of the day on Tuesday and ship on Thursday 7/28. I promise.
7. Have fun.

I'm actually in the process of building up a new SS MTB, and have nothing other than my $6 platforms (there's nothing wrong with them, I suppose...), so those would be a great boon.

As far as something to trade...I have a discovery team water bottle I won from Trek, an Epiphone stock pickup from one of their Les Paul Customs, and a bottle of glitter body gel someone got me as a gag gift. Unfortunately I routinely sell off or use anything I have of real value, part of the daily grind of a poor college student who spends all his meagre income on new bikes and parts...and occasionally ramen.

I'm in a giving mood so I'll send you a Coors Lite, a broken chain link and...nope...I think that's it. Do I win?

I've got a buddy that's just getting into MTBing. He wants clipless pedals and many other upgrades, but he's short on cash to do everything. After all, he's just 14. I've been biking with him regularly and he's been getting better every ride. He'd be glad to have the pedals.

As for trades, I've got a EA50 350mm seatpost 27.2 dia, a 27.2 to 31.6 adapter for the seatpost, and a couple schrader tubes. I no longer need the schraders as I just bought a new wheelset that uses prestas. Pick and choose or take it all. I won't be using them anytime soon! :)

Edit: Forgot about this one. Have a new set of Pearl Izumi grips that came with a pair of gloves I bought from my LBS.

I've been mountain biking for a few years and my dad decided that he would like to try it out. Well, now he's hooked. We both love to go out and ride every weekend and he has mentioned getting clipless pedals. I think these are exactly what he needs!

Hello

Well here's my pitch.

I just returned to cycling after a 15 yr layoff. I already have shoes with cleats because I used to ride a road bike many years ago. To cut a long story short, my old bike was stolen recently and the insurance kindly bought me a Santa Cruz Blur 4x. This bike came with no pedals so, for now, I had to put on a pair of $1 pedals I picked up at a garage sale . The bike now reminds me of a homeless guy, who just got a new-used 'goodwill' suit but still has his old shoes on... :)

I'm saving my pennies for some decent pedals such as these.

To trade, I have the Santa Cruz Blur T-Shirt size XL that is still in the bag if your interested.

Worth a try... :)

My brother recently gave(loaned for the next 4 years) me his has a road bike (trek 1200) while he goes away to college. I planned on using the bike for endurance training for soccer, as well as to lose a few pounds.
Anyway, a friend of mine can get me a good deal on shoes since im about his size and the shop won't really think much of it. I didn't have/ want to spend the money to buy new shoes and pedals to convert but i would be willing to buy shoes if i could get the pedals for free.
Also if the pedals are different sizes im sorry for wasting your time and mine by writing all of this.
I don't really have anything to offer other than a used set of tires.

I don't want them :P

I just stoped in to see what the attraction was, but I'll take Free advice :D

I just went spd and well the $35 Pyramid pedals just don't cut it. So I am looking for clipless that I can also use with normal shoes on the flip side as this is also my commuter hybrid run to the store bike and don't always want clipless.

Don't need the pedals, but I also have a brand new pair still in the shrink wrap that came with my cyclocross bike. (Put my Time ATAC on immediately).

If the guy with the Santa Cruz T-shirt doesn't win, I'll trade him the pedals for the T-Shirt??????

I'd be happy to pick up shipping, can pay via Paypal.....I'm in Australia....only if your interested...shipping would be around $10US via Global Priority.

Why am I interested?

These pedals would be a great start for my new mountain bike project. 2 weeks ago I had 1/3 of my colon removed due to appendix cancer and next week will be starting on a 6 month course of chemotherapy, have always been a mad cyclist riding both mountain and road. In the last few years due to work committments (9-5) and my 2 young girls (5yr old and 3 yr old) haven't had the chance to ride nearly as much as I would have liked, but now I will be using biking as a form of active recovery from both the operation and also for the chemo. I have now had to give up work due to the operation and also chemo but hopefully will be strong enough to return within 8 weeks.

I have a nice 2000 Cannondale Road bike but I currently only have a non suspension Giant Mountain bike that is 10 years old so I will be looking at upgrading it as soon as I am healthy enough to be able to go back to work and get some $$ together.

Anyway, great concept and thanks for listening.

Everyone has always told me that I should at least try clipless pedals, and Ive always been too stubborn to do it. But I think that after this past saturday when i tore the front of my leg open pretty nicely, I'm going to at least give them a shot. Especially since I'm gonna be getting back into racing, and have a few coming up in the next few months.....Ahh what the heck, I never win these free give away things anyway...wish I had something to trade...Good luck everyone

oh yeah, attached is a pic of the leg carnage...ok so it wasnt that bad...but it did bleed quite a bit

Don't get the campus pedals!! I used to work there and we talked customers out of it because they suck and would end up being returned like always. They don't clip in right.

Well I just started riding, this is my 2nd year and I am now starting to learn and buy what I need. I would love to get the pedals if you decided on me as the winner. I dont know what you might want so all you have to do is tell me a few ideas and I will do what I can. Thanks

GAME OVER.

Thanks for checking in. I cant believe this thing got almost 400 views. Its amazing how you put "FREE" in the subject line and people go crazy. Thanks to everyone who read.

And the winner is Magohn. Yes, he has an already great bike, but it shouldnt have crappy pedals on it. So, He must agree to pass them on if he shouldnt want them one day.

Everyone should do this with their unwanted spare parts. It would make this biking world a nicer place. -Bill

Good idea. Anyone who wants my 350mm EA50 seatpost 27.2mm or my set of grips, give me a PM with your name and address and they'll be sent along your way.

Same rules, don't be a you-know-what and pick them up just to sell them later for a profit.

There was a 'pay it forward' thread in the Buy forum for some time for people to do the same thing. Problem it seemed, is that over time the same people were giving, and the same people taking. I'm all for helping out fellow BF members with extra parts for either free/next to nothing but just have to take care that it's a fair balance between giving and recieving.

Wow! Thank you SOOO much. I really appreciate it and will certainly pass them on if I move on to other pedals. I will also try to attach a pic of my Blur with the $1 pedals. :)

Thanks very much. You made my night!!

P.S. My wife loves it when I lean the bike against the sofa :)
