ok, i've always been an spd dude from when i was riding road, but i've decided that after running spd on my fg that i would prefer clips (number of reasons),but i don't know sh*t about em, so i wondered if anyone could give me recommendations for a decent pair that will do the job and won't break the bank.

If you want to be all track-like, then MKS is generally favoured. (http://businesscycles.com/tped-mks.htm) There are a couple of styles, running from cheaper to pricey but the Sylvan's their basic set, works well.

Run those with matching MKS clips. http://businesscycles.com/tclip.htm

And your choice of double or single straps - double for more strength, rigidity and to get a really tight fit:

My roommate runs the MKS Sylvan's, matching MKS clips, and single EAI Errebi straps. They work well for her.

You can also look up various vintage style sprint/track pedals, clips and straps on eBay.

I prefer double straps on plastic clips. The plastic is a little more forgiving when the clip whacks the ground. I've had the metal ones snap like that.

I second the mks. Head to trackstar and grab a pair. Full setup (pedal/metal clip/strap) for around $45.
