Foo - My iPod + backpack mounting solution

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I know this is gonna get a lot people mad because I listen to music while riding, but I don't ride on public roads overrun by vehicles so in my opinion it's alright, I'd never do this while riding near cars. But with that aside here is my little drawing I made of it.

Looks good to me.
I am not sure I would want to carry a backpack with wires hanging out of it these days :(.

Think 'London', think 'suicide bomber', think 'seven gunshots to the head'. Not a pretty picture. :)

But you have to keep in mind that was London, and their police don't usually carry around guns because they have an itchy trigger finger :p

I can tell you are a road biker
When you are out in the middle of no where on a trail with just your mountain bike, you need tools and spare parts. Mountain biking doesn't involve riding inches from cars that you could flag down for help if you have a problem.

Bikes are a funny thing. They seem to break down, or flat, or turn their wheels to tacos regardless if they are in the woods, on the trail or on a highway 5o miles from home. Somehow they can't tell the difference.
And yes, because of branches and rocks and lions and tigers and bears, oh my, mountain bikers legitimately have to be better beaver scouts and have some spare parts. But the real joy of cycling, any cycling, is being able to fix or deal with any problem that comes up on one's own and not have to rely on flagging down speeding cars that are inches away and that probably forced the breakdown in the first place.
So backbacks - especially these fancy camels make a lot of sense (and I love my Iwalkman-style music device). "Operator" needs to get out of Richmond Hill Suberbia little more often - maybe try the ride to Maple, or if you need something safe, try the riding along the Don or Humber! ;)

Why not just attach the ipod to the back of your arm with a strap? I would thinkthe backpack is overkill + what happens if for some reason the backpack gets dislodged from you without being disconnected either through forgetfulness or a crash.

Yeah the arm idea would be better actaully ;) I'm looking at arm cases right now Marware has some nice ones.
But the idea I had planned for putting the Pod in my backpack was in iPod Armor, a metal case that encloses the Pod in foam, but I'm running into a problem routing the remote cable. And about the backpack being overkill... NEVER :D.... I'd never leave home without it, when I go on 4 hour trail rides I need my 102oz of water and First-Aid kit incase I take a fall, plus my spare tube, pump, and tools. It make sound like it would be heavy as hell, but even though it is heavy, it doesn't bother me, infact when it's on my back it doesn't even feel 20lbs, or however much it is.. 10lbs with water alone so I assume 18-20lbs with my gear. In my opinion it's worth it when I have all the stuff I do with me "just in case".
Oh yeah and about it being possibly disconnected from my body during a crash, no way hehe. This sucker is on good, sternum and lower cross strap, it isn't going anywhere even if I fell off a 100 foot drop. Which that would never happen.
But you have to keep in mind that was London, and their police don't usually carry around guns because they have an itchy trigger finger :p
"Terrorisim can happen anywhere." It happened here in Pennsylvania, remember.
I have a hunch them good ol' boys in Tennesee would just blow their wads all over the place at the chance to bag themselves a 'terraist'... even only if it was a suspected one.
"Why gol durn Cletus, it wuz onlee one of dem dere bi-ci-illist wif one o' dem new fangled moosik players in dat pack!"
"Well, it looked like it coulda been a bomb, Jedidiah"
"Sombiotch shoulda stopped when we whispered 'Halt in da name o' da law', yup, shoulda stopped. Now we's gotta clean out piztels."
:D Only looking out for a chum.

Haha, good guess. But yeah if I was mtb'ing (shudder) I would have no problems with a backpack (shudder) or music devices.
