I retired pro racer recently gave me a piece of advice that I have been following ever since. Have a glass of red wine after a hard training session. Obviously, drink lots of water and have a decent meal following the session, but feel free to enjoy a glass of wine (red) with your meal. Red wine (alcohol for that matter) increases bloodflow which help your body rid itself of the byproducts of exersize f.eks lactic acid etc. Also, a glass of red wine is a mild sedative, which comes in handy on those "hard-to-sleep-after-severe-training" nights.
Of course, this will not be everyones cup of tea, or glass of wine for that matter, but give it a try, you might be pleasantly suprised.

WOW, I LOVE that advice. I got into it in France. The whole world glows after a cup of wine.

My Doc says it has a beneficial effect on Triglyceride levels too. He did say only a glass or so though.
