"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Does sponsorship work? ... case in point

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Maybe it's just me, but I was completely unaware up until a few weeks ago that CSC is an American computer company. I guess their sponsorship of a professional cycling team didn't necessarily work on me ... or did it? hmmmmm ....

Dunno. You'll have to ask someone that works for CSC- give Lotek a holla. He works in their geek division... :D ;)

Would have you even known CSC had it not been for cycling??? If not, then it worked... :)
Get last month's Cycle Sport. It's worked brilliantly for Quick Step.
Revenues way up since they sponsored a Pro Tour team.
I went into Acqua e Sapone and bought some cosmetics. I wouldn't have done that had it not been for their cycling sponsorship...

Yeah, I could never figure out why the planet Saturn sponsored a team on earth. It's not like they were expanding into this market, right?

Yeah...I always struggled with the reasoning behind the Chevrolet/LA Sherriff's squad.
Cool bikes, though.

You never know. Don't you even bother to watch Tom Cruise in "War of the Worlds?". He is an expert, and we know nothing, remember?
:D

I suspect it does, however considering the relatively small pro cycling following in the US I do have to doubt if its worth it here, that said I've been in contact with NERAC.com, Navigator's Insurance and whoever the hell sponsors Snow Valley (blanking) and all 3 of those companies are quite satisfied with there American teams. Go figure.

My wife wanted to get a QuickStep floor, and I convinced her to get real hardwood....wonder if that contributed to Boonen's tour withdrawl?

I looked at Quick Step for our new floor too.
It's rubbish....hardwood all the way!! :D

Damn you, ZappCatt! Damn you to hell! You're the reason why we didn't get to see Boonen in his cute green shorts! Curses!
:D
Next time, listen to the lady. She knows best. ;)

Nah, when she saw the hardwood floors she actually thanked me for talking her into them.
You got to see enough of Boonen through his shorts while he was still there....
Still... damn you anyway! Support Quick Step and Boonen in his shorts! :D

Sponsorship always works if you can afford to do it. It's advertising, which is written off come tax time, so it's a great way to bleed off excess profits if you have them, and it may actually result in exposure you wouldn't otherwise get.

Obviously sponsorship is only as effective as the vehicle upon which your name is placed. It's easy to throw money away, harder to reach just the right target audience which leaves me a little surprised that CSC focuses their marketing efforts almost exclusively on Europe. I can only assume that this is part of their larger plan.

The owner of Navigator's Insurance is a bike race fan. They're an insurance company for oceangoing vessels. Obviously, he's not in it for publicity. He's in it for passion.
Snow Valley is water. It sounds like a ski resort to me.
Sometimes, companies simply want to own a sports property. Face it, cycling is exciting. Better to own a cycling team than a ___(pick any of the other sports)___.
