Road Bike Racing - Yet ANOTHER article you might enjoy....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just thought I'd add a little more fuel to the fire with this latest columnist to wade in on the subject of Lance's athleticism:

You didn't have to get to the end to figure out he was a runner, did you?

Lance might not be THE greatest because there are so many diff. disiplins of athletics but he is definitly one of the greatests. In some eyes he is THE greatest though, that is what counts. Just another artical from a close minded person.

we'll try to do better about not acknowledging him this time.
He's just another hack attempting to get some publicity. I guess he feels that it worked for, ah, errr, ummm ... who was that guy from MSNBC???? Ah, I guess it didn't work after all! :D :D

Agreed. Just another person that obviously knows nothing about sport except his own little standards based on baseball. He also doesn't realize that Lance was a top triathlete as a young teenager and was kicking adult butt at that time. That says something about his overall fitness level.
Notice that the guy is too much of a wimp to go out and ride a bike with his buddies. That way he'd have to find out just how hard riding a bike up a mountain can be never mind "racing" one like Lance.
You know, I live in the San Jose area. Maybe I should invite him to go for a ride with me. He shouldn't feel too threatened by a 50+ year-old guy, should he? :)
I very respectfully and without vitriol
invited him to next years Ride for the Roses.
Suggested we do the 50 miler, or 70, just to
make it interesting.
I did not curse at him
I did not verbally abuse him
I did not question his parentage
He did not answer.

When reading things like that, a certain quote comes to mind:
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Rather than take Mr. Bayless to task for his comments about Lance Armstrong, I decided to try and convince him to actually try cycling. Since I live in the Bay Area, I suggested to Mr. Bayless that he quit "beating himself up running" and get on a bike. I volunteered to show him around and promised I wouldn't be too hard on him.
Well, anyway, he sent me back a nice message thanking me for the offer but that even his wife was unable to get him to go on a bike ride and said that he was just going to ride his stationary cycle indoors.
Not being one to give up so easily, a sent him a reply telling him that indoor cycling sucked big time and that he was really missing out by not riding outdoors in the S.F. Bay area. I suggested that he go out and ride with a club/group in order to conquer his fear of traffic, potholes, etc. And that my offer to go out on a ride with him was still open.
I haven't heard from him again and probably won't. I was willing to give him the benefit of doubt at first, but now I'm annoyed that he has the gall to compare cycling to running but is unwilling to even go out on a real ride.

How many marathon winners beat cancer two years before their race? Lance Armstrong is by far the best athlete in the world right now. All time? How the heck could anyone ever know?
